Days rolled around, Dean had bugged Cas about his therapy session ever since he texted him crying about how they talk to much. Who ever they are. Cas refused to budge saying that he was crying because his mother thought of him as a patient rather than a son.
Dean went into three detentions because of trying to cheer up Cas' very down mood during class. He succeeded, almost. Cas would always look at him and his stern look would fade out and a small smirk would tug at the tip of his mouth. His piercings had all returned, Dean thought he looked unusual with the extra cheek snake bite piercing.
It interfered with his stubble a bit (A stubble Dean is really envious of because he's 18 and can't grow a damn beard yet) and looked severely out of place.
"I'm done, Cas. I'm taking you to dinner at the festival nearby. I can't stand your frown anymore" Dean announced, taking Cas' copy of 'Jane Eyre' after Castiel sighed for the sixth thousand times. Castiel snapped out of his gaze and grabbed dean's arm in panic. Dean let go of the book and it fell with a muffled thump.
After a moment of Dean intensely staring at Castiel who was breathing heavily. Castiel looked up at Dean who started to lower himself back into the chair and placed his other hand on top of Cas' grip. "I'm sorry" Was the only thing Dean heard before he was in a death grip hug, with a sobbing Castiel Novak on his shoulder muttering sentences along the lines of "They're mad at me" "I can't make a them stop shouting" "Ty doesn't talk to me anymore" "Lou is blaming me" Dean stayed silent and tried to steady Cas until his body stopped shaking. Castiel pulled back letting Dean go and wiped his eyes quickly. "Fuck, I'm sorry. I must've freaked you out. I'm sorry Dean" Dean placed a reassuring hand on Cas' shoulder. Castiel stopped talking and sniffed lightly, rubbing the tears from his eyes.
"It's good to cry, man. Every once in a while crying helps making you feel better." Dean smiled, take the book from the table and stuffing it into Cas' backpack for him "How about a movie night in? I'll make some popcorn, we'll watch a few episodes of family guy and let loose for a while you can stay over and we'll have a sleep over!" Dean cheered, taking Cas' backpack and leading the shaken teenager to his house. On the walk to the house, Dean kept up a conversation to help Cas out of his...whatever it was-panic attack maybe? Castiel kept silent, his face down and tongue playing with his lip-ring. Dean talked about the school gossip that Cas was missing, how the new president will be elected soon and they'll finally be able to choose a president, how Dean met a new friend and they walk together when they take their dogs out.
Castiel leaned towards replying with an occasional 'hmm' or nodding silently. Dean opened the front door for Cas, Dean winced slightly when Castiel hesitated before stepping in. Dean lead him to his room quickly as to dodge any unwanted apologies from his parents. "So, that box right there has all my DVD's, I'll go make popcorn while you pick a season." Castiel nodded, taking off his jacket and revealing his tank-top's red wrapped edges. Dean closed the door behind him as he padded downstairs and found Sam returning from his 'after school jog'
"Sammy, hey. Where's the popcorn Jar?" Sam gave him a glance and silently pulled forward a small plastic jar filled with popcorn seeds. Dean nodded silently and grabbed a sauce pan from the drawer.
Sam raised his eyebrows when Dean pulled out the licorice bag from the fridge along with the lemonade bottle "Didn't dad call dibs on the bag?"
"Dad called dibs on the cotton candy too, you don't see me ratting you out" Sam raised his hands in surrender and sprinted to the bathroom.
Dean balanced the popcorn bowl on top of the two glasses filled with lemonade (His father's beer glasses to be exact). When he entered his room Castiel was sitting cross-legged with his sketchbook on his lap, a face with scribbles around it.
Dean was unnoticed as he set down the snacks and set in the DVD, Castiel only noticed him when the screen sang to life. He dropped his pen and hid his sketch in his chest. "Popcorn?" Dean asked, stuffing a handful into his mouth. Cas accepted, taking a couple into his mouth and turning towards the tv.
Dean recognized the sketched face as the same one on Cas' desk, all the drawings were labeled Friend. Sometimes Anxious or Angry. Dean went with a safe rout and imagined it was for some book Cas was currently writing.
Cas refused to look back at Dean, eating with one hand while clutching his sketch with white knuckles.
Dean let it be.
