Vanessa's POV

We finally arrive at the beach after a long half hour where Christina has been begging me to tell her about me and Zach. I stay silent because there was nothing to say. Luckily the whole time we were in the back and Zach was all the way to the front. But Jack had also sat with us...

The three of us pile out of the car last and stay behind the rest of the group.
"You know how much this girl has been talking to Zach about you? He wants to see for himself what your like. I'll be an inside spy if you need me." He adds in a whisper to make sure the others don't hear.

"Why thank you but guys your both insane. Christina you know more than anyone that I don't want a relationship right now." I say.
"Why not? You're young live a little V!" says Jack. I don't need to tell him.

Jack kinda reminds me of my other best friend that I actually saw everyday. It's great being in L.A with Christina but I wish my hometown bestie was here too.

I walk ahead without saying anything to catch up to the rest of the group. I stay to the back and take my phone out.

V-Val I miss you a ton wish you were here rn!
Val- Don't miss me
Well do miss me
But have fun! YOU'RE IN LA GIRL! LIVE IT UP!
V-It's hard to without my hometown Bestie:/
Val-Don't worry about me. Ill see you soon enough

"What you doin?" asks someone and I jump a little. When I look up from my phone I see that it's Zach.
"Sorry didn't mean to scare you." he says.
"It's alright. I was just texting my best friend."
"Isn't that Christina?" He asks confused.
"Well yea. But Christina is my Internet best friend and I was texting my hometown best friend." I say.
"Ahh! Anything important?" he asks curious.
"Nah. Just telling her how much I miss her."
"Aww you guys must have been really close."
"As close as possible."

We find a spot to place all of our things. I lay out my beach towel and Zach lies his down next to mine. I begin to strip from my close to reveal my bathing suit as everyone else does. The boys are taking off their shirts and they all look super cute.

Once I'm done I lay down on my beach towel and take out my book. Right now I'm rereading the Harry Potter series. It's just to good to read once.

Zach plops down next to me. I look up from my book to see that he is staring at me.
"Can I help you?" I ask.
"Yes. Help me help you. What are you doing?" I look down at my book and then back at him.
"Well I'm trying to read if you can't tell."

"No no no. That's all wrong. Vanessa you're at the beach! Enjoy it! C'mon! I need to save you." He says pulling me up. I leave my book in my beach bag and let Zach pull me. He takes me the the ocean and gestures to it.

"See that's where you should be right now." He says.
"Okay but I don't want to right now. I just got the the part where Harry found out he's a wizard! I say trying to get back to my book.
"Nope. No books at the beach." He responds determined to get into the water.
"Make me." I say and stand still in place.

Zach smirks and backs up a bit. He runs towards me and I scream. He picks me up and throws me over his shoulder.

"Put me down Zach!" I shout laughing a little trying to hide it from Zach. It'll just egg him on. He laughs and runs into the ocean. He goes until his knees are completely engulfed by water.
"Do you want me to out you down now?" he asks.

"I want you to put me down on the sand!" I shout. I wiggle a little but if he drops me I'd fall in the water.

He tried to put me back down but I wrap my legs around his waist so that I don't get wet.

"Oh c'mon." he says and starts to laugh. I laugh along seeing him struggle to get me into the water.

Using one hand he bends down and splashes me with water. I gasp at how cold the water it. He's smiling for finally getting water on me. I bend down a little too and splash him back.

Some of it went onto his hair which he never intended to get wet.
"That's crossing a line!" he smirks and then he fully lets go and I fall into the water.

When I submerge I shout, "Zach!" And chase after him. I had gone completely under and now I had to make Zach go under too.

He runs but eventually I catch up to him. I jump onto his back in attempt to make him trip and go under but he keeps his balance. Instead I cup my hand, scoop some water and pour it in Zach's hair.

"Hey!" he shouts at me. I just laugh. We're in the more shallow part of the water so he put me down and the water is just above my ankle. We laugh at each other.

"Now may I go back to my book?" I ask.
"Nope! No books V. Lets do something!" he looks are and sees a volleyball court that's empty. We walk over.

"Lets play!" he says. I go to my side of the net and wait until Zach serves the ball. He's not bad but I get the first point.

"Nice one." he says when he missed the ball.
"Thanks. I played on my schools team so I know a thing or two." I say.
"Woah! I didn't know I was playing with a pro!" He says. I laugh at that and we kept playing.

In the end I beat Zach. Jonah runs over to us as I do my winning spike.
"Hey lovebirds its time for lunch!" He runs away when he catches Zach's eye. Zach runs after him and I just laugh. I walk over to where they set up the little picnic and sit down. I'm with Christina and Daniel.

We eat and talk about L.A some more. Zach is sitting across from me and makes silly faces. I smile at him. Daniel leans over to me and whispers in my ear, "Are you and Zach a thing now?" I'm surprised by this question.
"What? No. Zach and I are just friends." I respond. He has some kind of look of disappointment on his face.

Are they expecting me to actually end up with Zach?
