Life hack: don't trust anybody who doesn't sing along to Bohemian Rhapsody when it comes on.
"We will be switching your drugs tomorrow so you may feel a little woozy and stuff afterward." The doctor announced after checking over Gilbert.
"What kinds of medicine?"
"Suppressants for your brain. You said you were having night terrors?"
"Ja."
"This stuff should clear that right up."
"Danke."
"Ask if weed will help you?" Matthew had been making faces behind the nurse for a while now, trying to crack him up. He had learned to ignore it. Matthew was such a playful spirit; like Caspar or that fucker from Ghost (look it up kiddos. It's a really old movie. Old like your mothers. 😉 happy 19th babe!).
"Your friends are here to visit as well. They were told to wait until I was done."
"Which friends. I kinda have a lot."
"Haha no you don't." Oh, how Gilbert wanted to smack Matthew.
"A girl with brown hair, a boy with dark hair and glasses, and this other boy with long blond hair?"
"Ah. My bandmates."
"Oooh I get to meet your band!" Matthew cooed. "Can I have some autographs?"
"I can't wait to see them."
"I'll go get them." The nurse wandered off, leaving Gilbert alone with his ghost.
"Can you not."
"I'm just having fun."
"I know, and it's adorable, but I really don't want to be embarrassed in front of my band."
"What kinds of music did you play?"
"It was kind of a punk metal thing but Roderich is a classical pianist (and a classic penis) so he adds the soothing touch to it."
"Weird. I listen to indie lesbian bands and rap music."
"Oh?"
"And then rock and country too...well...I did. I don't hear music that much anymore."
"Gilbert," Elizaveta was the first to enter the room. She was the lead singer in the band, with a voice that kept the audience engaged. She was dragging Roderich behind her. Their hands were entwined.
Vash was the last to step in. He was the drummer in the band, but was also pretty cold.
"What's up, guys!" Gilbert greeted cheerfully.
"I'm gonna visit Al." Matthew announced, slipping out of the room.
"Gilbert, there's something we need to tell you." Roderich started.
"Ja? What is it?"
"We're disbanding."
"Dis-what?"
"Disbanding." Roderich's face was emotionless. Gilbert felt like the bed was collapsing beneath him.
"Why? We were doing so good!"
"Yeah. But were getting too old. Roderich and I are engaged, Vash has a little sister to support, and we can't be going on tour and staying out all night, especially with a baby coming." Elizaveta explained. At least she was delicate about it, but it still struck Gilbert right in the gut.
"Baby?"
"I'm pregnant, Gil."
Gilbert took a deep breath. "And you decide to tell me this now, while I'm in the hospital?"
"Gilbert..."
"You didn't even let me have a say in this. It's my band too. Fuck, I started it."
"What were we supposed to do? Bring Lili and the baby along with us?"
"I almost died, guys."
"That's another thing. This band is preventing you from growing up. You need to find something else in your life." Roderich sighed.
Gilbert swallowed. "This band is my everything."
"I'm sorry, Gilbert." Elizaveta reached for his hand, but he pulled it away.
"Just go."
"We're just trying to-"
"Go away. I don't want to see you guys ever again."
The trio all looked down, guilt in their faces.
"We'll go, then." Roderich pulled on Elizaveta's arm and she and Vash followed him to the door. "See you around."
"In your dreams."
