Seeing Soojin's mom's car parked near the bus stop when they finally got there was the most comforting thing ever. She had to commend her mom for the perfect timing; her nonexistent social skills wouldn't have helped her go through the confusing flurry Park Woojin made her feel when he said whatever he said. It was weird how something like this happens every time Soojin interacts with him for more than two minutes.
"My mom is over there," Soojin informed Woojin, pointing at her mother's black SUV.
"Oh," he said. "Uh, have a safe trip, I guess."
"Thanks," she said. "For that, and, um, walking with me."
"Any decent person would've done it."
"How will you get home?" Soojin couldn't help but ask.
"I'll just wait for the bus again," Woojin replied. "Don't worry about me."
"Okay."
Soojin's mom honked her horn, telling her daughter she had to go now or she'll probably get told off by some traffic enforcer. After giving Woojin a nod, she hastily walked to the car and got in the backseat.
"Hi, Mom," Soojin greeted.
"Who was that boy you were with?" her mother asked demandingly as she stepped on the gas.
"He's..." Soojin still wasn't sure, but she figured her mom would react more violently if the boy who walked with her was a complete stranger. "He's a friend."
"How come I've never seen him before?" she grilled Soojin further.
"He's a new friend, Mom," Soojin answered. "He's from my new class."
"You rarely make friends with the opposite sex," her mother observed. "And to think that you went home with him—"
"We just happened to take the same bus," Soojin explained, cutting her off.
When it comes to boys, Soojin's mom was a little touchy. What made her this way was when she told her boyfriend from nineteen-something years ago that she was pregnant, and the guy fled. Soojin then grew up without a dad, but she didn't really mind. The only downside is that it wasn't easy befriending guys because her mom would literally freak. But it's not like she can easily make friends in general, really.
"You know I'm only being like this to protect you, honey," her mom said. "Men are evil."
Soojin just nodded at that.
