Chapter 1

I've seen the world, lit it up as my stage now

Channeling angels in, the new age now

Hot summer days, rock and roll

The way you'd play for me at your show

And all the ways I got to know

Your pretty face and electric soul

"Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful." I silently hummed along to the beautiful song by Lana Del Rey. I absolutely loved the fact that this song was in my favorite movie; The Great Gatsby. Personally I liked the book better, I always do, because when you read a book you have the ability to get a look into someone's mind and thoughts and I think that's fascinating. I love people's thoughts and I often just sit somewhere and watch people while wondering what must go through their head, or what their story is. I always try to look through people's mask and try to see who they really are because, you see, everyone puts on a mask these days, myself included. We do this to protect ourselves from the evil things out there in this cruel world but what we don't realize is when we put on our masks and don't let people in, we slowly start to destroy ourselves.

We were currently sitting in the car on our way back home and with we, I meant my brother Justin, my mother and my father. After two years of living in Belgium my dad suddenly decided to move back to Sydney, without me or my brother having any say in it, as usual. We were too young to decided what we wanted to do he said and what kind of bullshit it was. If being - almost - eighteen years old doesn't make you old enough to make your own decisions then I don't know what age does. I mean this is the age where you are classified as an adult right? Then may I ask why I'm still treated as a freaking child. Two years ago when we had moved, I actually thought that we were going to start a new life and leave all the bad things behind but now I realize that they were just running away from their problems and that, I think, is pathetic. I sighed and closed my eyes once again, but unfortunately not for long.

"Elena dear, are you asleep?" My mom asked me and I opened my eyes. "No mom, I am not." I said rather annoyed and she smiled lightly. There was no reason for me to act like I was happy when I wasn't. "Well we have arrived." I put my music off and got out of the car making sure I slammed the door in the process. I wasn't going to help them unpack so instead I grabbed my own bags and went straight to what used to be my room. I still wondered how my dad managed to get the exact same house back and that made me think that maybe he never even sold this house and was planning on coming back from the beginning.

I opened the door and saw that my room was exactly how I left it which only confirmed my earlier thoughts. I've always hated my room. The colors were awful and my bed was way too small, definitely now. The only thing good was that I had a walk-in closet. I may seem like a snobby bitch right now but honestly I am not, I'm just done being bossed around by my parents.

I walked over to my desk and opened one of the drawers only to see that there was a picture frame still in there. Well I must have forgotten it. I took a closer look and it and saw that there was a picture of me and Luke in it and my breath got caught in my troth. The photo was taken when we were five years old on our first ski trip. Luke wanted to go snowboarding and I wanted to go skiing since I thought it was more girly. Turned out that I sucked at skiing and so I joined Luke with snowboarding. We didn't like the people in our group so we always left them and went snowboarding on our own. We had so much fun, it was unreal and we never got caught. That was until on our last day Luke lost his balance and slipped which made me slip and break my arm. At first Luke was panicking so much and he really was sorry until we got home. It didn't hurt that much anymore and that's when he started laughing at me and saying that he was the better snowboarder because he hadn't broken anything. Of course that was not true since he was the one that got me in the cast but I let him be because it made him happy. I would have done anything to make Luke happy.
