Phil sat at his desk, his hands shaking as he desperately tried to pick up his pen, which he had now dropped 6 times. He had a notebook in front of him - he was going to need a lot of paper.

Dan was out right now so Phil was all alone. Dan was shopping, so Phil knew that he'd be out for a few hours at least.

It had been a few couple since Phil had been put on anti-depressants, but they weren't working. He couldn't see himself getting any better.

Finally, he picked up the pen. He managed to write what he wanted to write:
Dan, I love you. I just can't go on like this. I can't see myself getting any better and I hate being in this state. I'm being selfish - I know that, but you'll forget about me eventually. I'm not that important. I'm an insignificant dot really.

You know so many people, so many beautiful people, people who are so much nicer than me, who aren't burdens. That's what I am - a burden. And I'm sick of it. I'm useless.

I love you so much. I hope you don't miss me too much.

Bye.

Phil went into the kitchen and set the note on the counter where he knew Dan was going to see.

He knew what he had to do next.

Phil grabbed his half-full box of
anti-depressants and filled a glass of water, and went into his bedroom. He wanted Dan to see the note before he saw him.

One, two, three, he swallowed every tablet.

Then, he stopped. He fell to the floor. Unconscious, he started to have a fit.

Dan walked in. "Phil, I'm back!" He picked up the note from the counter and tears filled his eyes. 'Burden' 'insignificant dot' 'selfish' 'useless' These words stuck in this head.

Dan ran into Phil's bedroom and saw Phil laying there fitting. He immediately rang an ambulance.
"Hello, ambulance please. My friends has tried to kill himself and he's having a fit. He's overdosed."
He gave out the address and then hung up.

Finally the ambulance arrived. It probably only took 5 minutes but to Dan it seemed like an hour.

"He's in here" Dan said, guiding them to the bedroom.

The paramedics lifted up Phil and put him into the stretcher. He was still fitting but they needed to get him into hospital.

They loaded him into the ambulance and Dan followed. He sat in the back with Phil and one of the paramedics.

The sirens started and they quickly drove to hospital.
