(Darkstalker looks so darn cute!)

Me and Moon hid in our caves for the rest of the day. I pretended to be asleep when my clawmates came back, even Kinkajou hopefully rustled around and dropped scrolls in an effort to wake me up. At last Carnelian suggested that I might be tired from the whole ordeal, and to just leave us alone. Kinkajou sighed and agreed at last. I could tell she wanted to talk about the last thing I wanted to bring back up again: the scavenger.

She left to find someone named Tamarin, and Carnelian curled up on her ledge. I fell asleep quickly after, and the nightmare came immediately after this time.  Ever since the comet six months, me and Moon had had the same awful dream, although the details often changed.

A roaring avalanche crushed dragonets in it's path. Lightning split the sky open as thunder roared through the mountain. Dragonets screamed in terror and died all around me, their death screams echoing through my mind.

'that's Jade Mountain!' I realized for the first time, watching the earth crack and shake. The fang shaped peaks crumbled into a slide of deadly boulders. 'Jade Mountain is falling...' I realized.

I couldn't move, I couldn't speak, couldn't call for help, couldn't warn the dying dragons. I could only stand and watch as pain pounded through my head and the world was destroyed right under my claws.

'This can't be real.

It's just a nightmare. It's just everything I worry about and everything Mother worries about and now probably everything all the dragons around me worry about, all rolled into my head and exploding.

Not a vision.

Not a prophecy.

Not the future.

Please, it can't be the future.

A SandWing on fire, screaming. Cracks appearing all along Jade Mountain, opening right under dragons and swallowing them into the earth's cold embrace. A dragon who looked like Kinkajou, but white with fear, shrieking as falling rocks crushed her tail.

'Wake up!' I screamed at myself, crying and shaking, unable to cover my eyes.

"Talons and teeth, you poor little dragonet..." A comforting voice whispered in my head. A huge shape suddenly loomed beside me, as if another mountain had materialized out of the ground. I had a lightning-fast impression of silver and black, and then vast talons closed around my claws and I was suddenly yanked out of the nightmare into darkness.

Cool, still, peaceful darkness. Darkness with no voices in my head, nothing burning or collapsing, no noise or catastrophe or panicking. It was, in fact, the first silence I'd found since arriving at Jade Mountain. I wanted to rest in it forever.

I took a deep breath, and then another, and my heart slowed down.

This was still a dream, I knew. Someone- the other telepath had lifted me out of the nightmare, but I was still asleep. He'd brought my mind somewhere quiet, and I guessed he was waiting somewhere nearby.

After a long, long while, there was a voice in the dark, softly. "You're a mess..."

I hunched my wings forward and wrapped them around myself. "I know." I whispered.

"Someone should be punished for letting you get this way." He growled in a protective voice.

"No one knows I'm like this..." I said, shaking my head. I hesitated. "Thank you... for that, what you did..."

"You should be able to do that yourself." He said. I thought it was a he. It was hard to tell from a dragons internal voice. I couldn't tell anything else about the speaker; when he was silent, the void seemed to be empty.
