You snuggled closer to Seongwoo on the couch of his dorm, appreciating the heat he radiated on the chilly day. He lifted his arm up and wrapped it around your shoulders, pulling you closer with his eyes still glued on the television playing some random action movie.
A small smiled bloomed across your face. You had spent weeks longing to be this close to him, and it was every bit as wonderful as you imagined it to be. It was clear that you and Seongwoo shared more than platonic feelings, or at least that's what the other boys said. He could make you burst out laughing with as little as a raise of his eyebrows, and the two of you shared some connection that let you look at each other in a situation and know exactly what the other was thinking. The bond you had with Seongwoo was special.
When he finally confessed his feelings you had been so caught off guard that you spilled a cup of coffee all over yourself. Seongwoo had found it hilarious, but he was so nervous about what your reaction would be that his shocked laugh sounded more like he had choked on his own spit. The two of you were quite a sight, but once you had his jacket on to cover the coffee stains and he left the curious eyes of coffee shop bystanders, it was clear that you felt the same way.
So, there you were. Cuddling on the couch, watching a movie, enjoying your unofficial date. You jumped in your seat as something blew up on the screen, quickly taken out of your thoughts. Seongwoo chuckled and you lightly hit him on the chest, which only made him laugh harder. However, when the two of you settled down again, you noticed something in the atmosphere had changed. Seongwoo was tense. With a sideways glance you recognized his nervous habit of catching his lower lip between his teeth. Usually you found it unfairly and incredibly sexy, but now you could tell something was wrong.
You grabbed the remote and pressed pause, catching Seongwoo'z attention. His head swiveled to look at you, lips red and plump from biting.
"What's wrong?" You reached over and gently held his hand in yours. He opened his mouth to ask how you knew he was troubled, but closed it as he remembered how you knew him better than most. If it had been any other time he would have been grinning ear to ear because of the connection you shared, but he was too nervous.
"You're nineteen." He deadpanned, knowing it was futile to try to hide his emotions from you.
"Yes, that is correct," You replied slowly, narrowing your eyes while trying to figure out where he was going with it. "And I'm twenty-three." "I am aware."
"That's a pretty big age difference." Realization dawned on you. Faintly you remembered something he said a while back about how young you were compared to him. At the time you thought he was just trying to antagonize you, because despite your difference in age you were the more mature one at most instances.
"Does that really bother you?" You asked softly.
"Well," He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It does a little bit. I'm just a little nervous that because I'm older than you I'm making you grow up faster, or that people will judge you for being with an older guy. I don't want you to get hurt." You sat together in silence for a moment, hands intertwined. Seongwoo was staring shamefully down at his lap, his voice quiet. "Seongwoo," You said firmly but gently, "You don't need to worry about that. Sure, I might be a few years younger than you, but it's actually pretty rare to date someone exactly your age. If you want me to get technical I could tell you that females mature faster than males, so we're actually closer in maturity now than we would be at the same age-" You giggled at his dull expression, the one you always received when you got technical. "What I'm saying is, there's nothing wrong with me being a little younger than you." "Are you sure?" Seongwoo asked, squeezing your hand in his.
"Yes," You assured him, "I'm a big girl. I can handle it. And really, when have I cared what other people thought of me?" A thought flashed in Seongwoo's mind of the time you loudly performed a rendition of your favorite song in the parking lot of a frozen yogurt place, simply because Seongwoo had said something that bared small resemblance to the lyrics. Or to the time you showed up at his door wearing a bunny onesie, ears and all, insisting that anyone who stared at you was simply jealous that they didn't have a cute onesie as well.
"Might I add that we're both the mental age of six?" You commented, immensely proud of yourself for the smile that curved Seongwoo's lips, knowing you had caused it. "Okay, okay," He chuckled. "But I'm at least twelve." "Ten and a half." "Fine, ten and a half."
You sat smiling at Seongwoo, glad his usual goofy self had reappeared. Of course Seongwoo was serious sometimes. You had seen all of his sides, including the serious and self-conscious parts of him. But you knew Seongwoo loved laughing and being happy, and being apart of that made you feel like you were on top of the world. "Well, since that's out of way," Seongwoo said shyly, "Would you like to go out on a date?"
"I would love to," You replied, grinning so hard your face hurt. You snuggled back into Seongwoo's chest and he placed an affectionate kiss on the top of your head.
"Does this mean I'm a cougar?" You asked jokingly.
"EW," Seongwoo proclaimed loudly, giving you an obnoxiously disgusted expression. Soon the two of you were laughing joyfully together, the movie long forgotten as you simply enjoyed being together.
