Meeting #1

Strider was bored.

He knew he shouldn't be. He was at a highly publicised event where he could make connections to further his future career as an established lawyer. Most of all, he was finishing his internship at one of the better-known law companies in Los Angeles. It wouldn't do good for him to look as if he wished he could be anywhere but there.

Already, he had met severable reputable lawyers and some had expressed interest in hiring him once he graduated and for Strider, that was good enough. He had finished top few in his cohort and was well on his way to being recognised and sought after in the industry.

His mentor had long abandoned him and Strider was simply mingling about, trying not to stick out like a sore thumb.

A flash of bright red caught his eye and in the sea of dull colours, that caught his attention. He turned to see an exasperated looking brunette stalk past him in killer heels towards the bar at the other end of the large ballroom of the hotel.

Lawyers always dressed in monotone colours and it was surprising and utterly rare to see someone dressed in bright hues. Observing the brunette who he could barely see through the crowd, he could either guess that she was a date to the event or a rather daring aspiring lawyer.

Deciding that the only way was to find out and to curb his boredom, he grabbed a drink from one of the waiters walking about and headed into the direction of the bar. Unsurprisingly, she wasn't the only one lingering at the bar and luckily for him, there was an empty spot beside her.

The moment he stepped beside her, the woman groaned before digging through her purse. "I so do not need you to pick me up."

Strider blinked, not expecting that sort of response from her. "What made you assume that I wanted to?" he replied dryly.

The woman stopped and turned to him, eyes widening in marginal surprise before she schooled her expression into one of disdain. "Why should I not? It has happened to me at least six times tonight at this stupid meet."

Again, he wasn't entirely surprised that had happened especially with the way she looked and her dress. Her dark hair was in a bun with a few tendrils to frame her face, her makeup done lightly to accentuate her features and her red dress was conservative with a high neckline and stopping to just below her knees.

She was rather stunning.

He refrained from commenting before signalling to the bartender for a drink. "It's the dress isn't it?" she sighed and pulled at the material.

He glanced at her before giving a curt nod. "I would assume so, are you an intern as well? You look incredibly young."

She glared at him and reached up to tuck a curl behind her ear. "You're an intern too, you're all alone and that shows."

"I'm twenty-two," he offered with mild irritation at her attitude. "You look way too young to be here," he retorted.

Now, she looks offended and she tilted her head defensively, "I'm currently twenty-one and would be turning twenty-two when I graduate."

At that, he raised an eyebrow, surprised. "You're on an accelerated programme?"

She glanced at him once more and accepted the drink he got for her and downed the whole thing before replying. "Yes."
