Cameron Donnahue
Cameron knew he met the love of his life when he had been at a bookshop shopping for his youngest brother's birthday present.
She was stunning with auburn hair and bright eyes as she chatted with a customer from behind the counter. Already, he could feel his palms begin to sweat and his heart beating an irregular beat in his chest.
He wanted to ask her out but he didn't even know how. Numbly, he began making his payment at the counter and only grunting answers when she spoke to him.
Later, he kicked himself sorely for being a chicken to not ask her out. He had seen from her name tag that her name was Daniella and to Cameron, the name suited her.
From that day onwards, presents he gave to his family and friends were always books. Books that he bought from the store that she was working at.
It even came to a point where his sister, Gwennie had used the numerous books he had bought for her as a doorstopper.
He knew he was being a chicken but he couldn't help it. Every time he saw her, he became a tongue-tied fool. But he had to get his nerves. He was a Donnahue damnnit! He wouldn't let such a thing as nerves bring him down.
What was the worse that could happen?
That very day, he entered the bookshelf and seeing her there right in front of him almost made him want to leave the store immediately. He shoved his hands into his pockets and took determined strides to where she was stacking books.
"Oh, it's you! Did your sister like the gardening book you got for her?"
He blinked, unable to remember which book she was talking about. Because firstly, Gwennie would rather choke to death than to get her hands dirty and secondly, he bought way too many books to remember which gardening book.
"Uh, yes. She did like it very much," he stammered nervously and Daniella nodded, eyes on him and she tucked a stray lock of her hair behind her ears.
"That's great," she said and silence descended between them like a dark cloud.
Already, Cameron wished that he could just speak up and ask the damn woman out already and just when he was about to do so-
"You're Cameron, right?"
He stared at her, unaware of how she knew his name. "Yes, how did you-"
"I took a peek at your credit card," she admitted, face turning red and her eyes flickered from his to the ground. "I'm Daniella," she offered.
"I know," he blurted out dumbly and from the startled expression on her face, he could feel heat creeping up his neck and he was pretty sure that his ears were red.
"Your name tag," he pointed out and Daniella looked down and flushed even more. "Oh, I completely forgot I was wearing it."
She was ridiculously adorable when she was embarrassed. Just ask her already! His subconscious was screaming at him and strengthening his resolve, he cleared his throat."Would you like to go out with me?"
A shy nod was his answer and he could feel his chest bursting with relief and excitement. They had gone to a little restaurant near the bookshop where he learned that she was working there part time before she could be properly qualified to be a kindergarten teacher. At the end of the night, she had spilled soda on him and he had tripped on her bag and almost landed face first on the ground.
