10 years later
Kimberly's POV
"Nanna, Please say it's not true what Morganna's sister said in the cafeteria today."
My gorgeous granddaughter Aubree-Rose asked when I picked her up from school."What did she say darling?"
"She said that you weren't my real Nanna and the Grammy award winning superstar Karen Fairchild is."
I could see by the expression on my darling girls little face that I just had to come out with it and attempt to explain the truth.
"Karen is your biological Nanna sweetheart. I adopted your mommy before you where born. Karen was neglecting your mommy and Aunti Dixie."
I paused.
"Aubree, do you understand what I mean when I say neglecting?
"I think so Nanna. Does it mean she wasn't paying them enough of her time and love?"
"Near enough."
I replied with a smile.
I took a huge sigh and attempted to explain the remainder of the story to my darling Aubree-Rose regarding her biological grandmother.
2 hours later - over dinner
"Mommy, why didn't you tell me that Nanna adopted you?"The look on Emmylou's face was seriously priceless.
"Er what? I bet your pardon sweetheart. What did you say Aubs?"
"Why didn't you tell me that Nanna adopted you?"
"Who did you hear that from?"
"Well firstly I heard at school that Nanna wasn't my real Nanna, so I asked her when she picked me up from school earlier. Nanna explained that both you and Aunt Dixie were adopted. You by Nanna and Aunt Dixie by Aunt Becky. Nanna explained that your proper mommy neglected you. Least I think that was the word she used."
Aubree-Rose looked at me and I smiled.
Aubree-Rose then mentioned a name that I thought I would never hear at my dinner table.
"Mommy is it true that your proper mommy is Karen Fairchild?"
Patsy, Daisy & Dolly all stopped dead in their tracks and just sat and stared across the table at each other. After what seemed a lifetime but was probably only a couple of minutes my amazing 18 year old Patsy cleared her throat.
"Aubree chick where and who from did you hear about that women?"
"Cassidy, you know Morganna's sister."
Patsy nodded.
"I take it you know how horrible and mean she was to your mommy then."
The expression on my granddaughters face changed rapidly. Her eyes where filling up with tears faster that ever.
"What?"
She squeaked and swallowed hard.
Luckily my amazing husband and I had explained to the twins about Karen and Jimi the previous month so they knew basically what went on between us all. Believe me when I say this though they didn't know details. Daisy got up from the table and went and put her arms around Aubree-rose.
"I don't know much Aubs although I do know that her and her husband treated your mommy in a way that nobody should ever be treated. My mommy said that it took yours months to get over what they did and said to her."
"I take it by all that I won't be allowed to go see her in concert at the Ryman on Saturday with Morganna and her mommy then."
My darling Emmylou must have zoned out for a while cause the way she reacted was like she hadn't heard a word anyone had said until the Ryman was mentioned.
"Karen's playing the Ryman on Saturday?"
"Yep. Mrs Shentall said that I was very welcome to go see her with them as well as long as it was alright with you obviously."
"Of course you can go Aubree. You have promise me one thing though"
Aubree-Rose nodded.
"Behave yourself for Mrs Shentall and do whatever she says."
"Ok mommy."
"I hope she sings her new single Better man."
By now Dolly had clearly had enough of all this. From day one of finding out about Karen and Jimi she had despised them course of the way Emmylou had been treated.
"Can I leave the table please?"
"Of course sweetheart. Don't you want any cheesecake though."
I asked.
"No thank you. The mentioned of that women has made me loose my appetite."
She got up and walked out the room.
