Chapter Seventeen

Five minutes later, Amanda arrives and we leave to go to the hospital.

" You're strumming on my heart strings like you are a grade eight, but I've never felt this way, I'll pick your feet up off of to ground and never ever let you down."

Chapter Seventeen

Amanda helped me into the waiting room as a doctor arrived with a wheelchair. She helped me in and we were delivered to a room. I was still crying and Amanda shushed me.

Five minutes or so later, a doctor enters to room. " Hello, miss Hutcherson. Your husband has arrived." I smile slightly and nod, as Josh walks over to me. Amanda gives a reassuring smile and leaves.

" Jen." Josh says, frowning.

" I'm so sorry, Josh. I-I" I said, crying.

" No. Don't be. This isn't your fault. If the worst comes to the worst, I'll still have you. We'll make it through this, just you wait and see."

" What about the baby?" I ask.

" I don't know," he whispers. He leans down and pecks my lips once as a the doctor re-enters.

" Hello, Mrs Hutcherson, Mr," he greets us with a cheery smile which makes me just a little angry. This is not the situation in which to smile. " I'm here to ask you some questions, Jennifer. Do you think you can answer me?"

I nod.

He nods also and sits on the end of my bed. " Now. This may seem very personal, but it is necessary. Have you and your husband had intercourse any time recently?"

I gulp. This is becoming very awkward. " Yes." I nod.

" When?" He asks.

" A few days ago."

" Okay. I think I know what your problem may be. But just to be safe, I think I'll do an ultrasound. Is that okay with the two of you?"

I look to Josh and we both nod. The doctor also nods and places some cold gel on my stomach, then slides a wand over it. I search the screen for my baby, and there it is, sleeping soundly. I gasp and more tears well up in my eyes. I snuggle closer to Josh.

" There's baby. All's well. The bleeding was caused by cervical changes." The doctor grins. A smile spreads across my face and I look up at a gaping Josh. He glances down at me and smiles.

" What does that mean?" Josh asks, still looking at me.

" Well," says the doctor, " it just means that your cervix has shifted. Baby won't be harmed at all. Would you like pictures, just while we're here?"

I nod. " Five please."

My baby is alive.

And in this moment, I couldn't be happier.
