The black Peugeot 5008 pulled up on the school drive. 8 year old twins, Joel and Janie, scrambled out first, racing to the boot to grab their matching blue and pink backpacks. 15 year old Alysha came out next, calmly walking around the back to collect her black satchel. The siblings mother climbed out of the driver's seat and went to unstrap their 6 year old sister, Kate, and walked her around the back to get her Peppa Pig backpack before Alysha picked her up. Their mother said goodbye to them, fussing as usual.
"You know where you're all going right?" Their mother asked, an anxious look on her face.
They reasured her that they did all know where to go, then they turned around and set off into the students entrance. They arrived in a big hall with three corridors leading off into different sections of the school. Left for high school, straight forward for nursery and right for primary. The twins said goodbye to Alysha and Kate and set off down the corridor to the right and Alysha walked straight forward with a giggling Kate in her arms.Alysha walked through a set of open double doors and into a large room, painted with a variety of bright colours.
"Oh hello, this must be Kate right?" Alysha turned around to see a young woman with casual clothes and a kind smile facing them.
"Er yes, you must be the reception class teacher?" Alysha asked, putting Kate down on the soft, carpeted floor.
"Well, I'm one of them." She said, chuckling. "This is only the reception entrance room. Through that door is the corridor leading to all the classrooms."
"Oh, cool. So I pick her up from here after school?" Alysha asked.
"Yes." The teacher replied, before taking Kate's hand and leading her through the door to the classrooms. Alysha watched her go, waving to each other, then the door closed and she checked the time on her phone. She was late. She set off running back the way she came to the entrance then turned down the corridor with the sign saying 'High School' hanging above it. She checked her time table as she ran, trying to find where she was meant to be.
Crash!
Alysha fell to the floor, her planner skidding off in one direction and her phone the other. She looked up to she what she had crashed into. Or rather who she had crashed into as she looked up to see a tall man with a handsome face looming over her. He was wearing a navy blue suit and had an air of importance about him. She felt immediately intimidated looking up into his entrancing, green eyes. She regained her train of thought and hurriedly stood up, picking up her belongings and apologising. He stood there as she gathered her things and smiled at her when she had finished.
"You must be Kate, if I'm not mistaken?" He stated. She noticed his voice was quite deep and, like his eyes, entrancing.
"N-no, that's my younger sister. I'm Alysha." She stuttered, suddenly feeling quite embarrassed.
"Ah yes, of course you are Alysha. The new student. I read you and your sibling's files this morning." The man replied, "I am Mr Kane, this wonderful school's head teacher."
"Oh, cool." She found herself saying, then scolded herself on her apparent limited vocabulary.
"Do you need showing to your classroom?" Mr Kane asked, smiling again.
"Er, yes, I think so." Alysha said, as Mr Kane turned and began walking down the corridor. He lead her through a maze of corridors, staircases and even a small yard before finally arriving at the classroom. He gestured for her to go inside and she quickly followed his instruction. The door squeaked upon opening and the whole class turned to face her.
"She's been with me." Mr Kane said to the teacher, who looked angry about having her class disrupted but her expression softened as Mr Kane spoke.
"Very well Sir." The teacher said, turning to face Alysha. "Sit down quickly and open your book so I may resume the lesson."
The door squeaked as it closed and the lesson began.
