The twins collected a tray each and went to stand in the lunch queue. They were still laughing about the events of their last lesson involving a short-sighted teacher and a name mix up.
"That was hilarious! Miss Baker is practically blind!" Joel laughed, recalling the lesson.
"The girl sitting next to me nearly wet herself!" Janie said.
"That teacher couldn't even get our genders right!" Joel exclaimed, making the pair laugh more. They found themselves suddenly at the front of the queue and requested their food, found an empty table and sat down just as the high school students piled through the cafeteria doors. They looked around for Alysha and saw her saunter through the double doors, late again, spot them and come over.
"Where's Kate?" They both asked simultaneously.
"Reception kids eat their lunch down there in one of the classrooms." Alysha explained, getting a cereal bar out of her bag and biting into it delicately.
"I ran into the head teacher this morning, literally." Alysha said.
"What were they like?" Joel asked, stuffing a forkful of mashed potatoes into his mouth.
"He was pretty nice but for some reason I got a bad feeling about him, and..." Alysha's voice faded.
"And?" Janie asked, chewing her mouthful of chips.
"And he was kinda handsome." Alysha finished, smirking at the memory of his deep, mesmerising eyes.
Joel and Janie smirked at each other.
"What?" Alysha asked, taking another small bite of her cereal bar.
"You've got a crush!" The twins chorused, simultaneously.
"No I haven't!" She nearly shouted, then looked around and repeated it quieter.
The twins grinned again, then gasped at something behind Alysha and went quiet. Alysha turned to see Mr Kane heading towards their table, looking proud of his surroundings. All the students were sat neatly at the little, round tables chatting amongst themselves and eating their lunch. He likes things neat and controlled, Alysha thought.

He came over to their table and looked down at them smiling, he seemed to think himself too important to sit down.
"I trust you are all enjoying your first day here?" He asked, his deep voice entrancing Alysha once again. The twins were trying really hard not to burst out laughing. Alysha snapped out of her trance, shot a glare at the twins and smiled at Mr Kane.
"Yeah, it's been good so far." Alysha said, trying to sound like she wasn't that bothered. Her eyes gave her away as she couldn't take her gaze away from Mr Kane's eyes.
"Good, good." He replied, then turned to face the twins. "And you two have also had a good day, I presume?"
The twins nodded energetically, feeling as though they were going to burst holding back their laughter.
"Good. I will see you later, I'm sure." He said, before turning and walking out of the cafeteria.
They couldn't hold it any longer. The twins exploded with laughter, causing a few students to turn to find the source of the laughter echoing around the room and Alysha to glare deeply at them.
Ding-a-ling-a-ling!
The bell sounded, prompting students to start heading to their next lesson. Alysha, Joel and Janie stood up and clearing their table, they headed to the doors to navigate their way through the maze of a school to find their lessons.
