The trees slowly waved from the wind. It was cold, but only because I wasn't wearing a jacket. I sighed, restless. The moon was up already, reminding me that the days would be shorter.
Just when I was drifting off into a disturbed sleep, there was a gasp coming from Gavin. My head shot up and I accidentally hit the side of the roof. "Damn it!" I felt the bruise in my head.
Destiney stirred. "Huh?" She lifted her head drowsily. Gavin was staring down at the ground below.
"They are zombies... Coming inside. I can't get all of them. I'm sorry, I should've seen them-" He explained, but what cut off by Julia.
"They're coming inside?" She gasped. Her hair was ruffled from sleep, but her eyes were wide and awake. She looked around fearfully.
Gavin's eyes widened, as if he thought they'd make up. "Yes!"
You bitch! Don't scare her! I thought angrily, glaring at him with annoyance. However, part of me was excited that there would be some action.
Jay was calm, I realized. He blinked once and handed me my katanas. I glared at him icily through narrowed eyes. "Thanks." But when his hand touched mine, my heart skipped a beat.
Destiney huffed. "No one's going out there unless I say. Julia and Gavin will stay behind and see if any other zombies go inside. Jay, (Y/N), and I will go down and fight them off."
Julia stared at me with scared eyes. Was she afraid for me?
"I'll be fine," I assured her. She looked startled at the fact that I noticed. But she didn't say anything. We should be getting along now, but she is just.... Difficult.
Destiney and Jay were going down the trapdoor already, Destiney only pausing to scowl. "You just going to hang out over there? In case you haven't noticed, we've got zombies to kill!"
I rolled my eyes. "No, I'm not coming. I'd rather be up here instead of slicing something's head off!" I hurried to her and followed her down the ladder.
Jay waited for Destiney to lead. I took my place beside him, my eyes widening as I imagined blood being scoured through the walls of the mall. Nobody else was here, so we were fine. Besides the zombies, of course.
I thought I imagined quick footsteps somewhere near. But there was nothing.
I gripped my katanas tighter, scowling at Destiney when she halted. "What is it?"
Destiney smiled back and unblocked the way. I spotted four zombies moaning and shuffling towards us. "Here's your zombie friends. Go get us some blood!" She handed me a bottle.
"Where the hell did you get this?!" I asked as the zombies advanced.
Destiney smirked. "Nevermind that! Go!"
The zombies winced at her shriek. Do they hear noises more than us? That's weird. All the same, Jay and I scrambled to the zombies, forgetting about Destiney's bottle.
As soon as the zombies came into range, I elbowed one in the mouth with the handle, clearing the blood. Destiney cheered, taking pictures, and I let out a sigh.
Jay was sticking a pistol in one of their ears. Risky! The bullet landed a few feet away from my foot and I scowled while slicing off a zombie head.
The last zombie reached out to bite Jay but I kicked his legs from under him, then hit his face hard with one katana. He was sent across the building with some brain and blood on my weapons.
In all, it took about 10 seconds to take out the zombies. I smirked with delight then realized there was a scratch on my arm. It took all my effort not to end my life quickly. I then realized it wasn't a scratch. Just a scratch of blood. I sighed with relief.
