"Yeah, we should probably go before it gets too dark." I replied. "You have some nice friends, you know."
Jack's smiled. "Yes, I know"

Mark POV:

Jack started to go the opposite direction of Felix and Cry. It was becoming too dark for my liking. All the creepy ocean creatures are nocturnal. Not a good sign. To be fair, living with your nightmares is, also, not a good sign either.

The temperature was beginning to drop at a noticeable speed, now that it was turning dark. The waters were starting to dim, it was probably becoming the night. The sun was still up, but hardly. It would probably start to sunset in a few minutes. Still, I could hardly see Jack or Sam. With my vision I saw a speck of green and a slightly larger blob of green.

"Jack?" I tried to say in a calm voice. I think it came out panicky. "I can't see anything."

"Really?" I felt something, hopefully Jack, brush against my leg. I harshly flinched away. "I thought you would have night vision like most mer-folk." Jack commented. "It'll probably take effect by tomorrow. Here, I'll help you." Just like that, Jack's tail illuminated like a night light. The light spread to a few feet behind and in front of Jack.

"Woah!" I gasped.

"Everyone can do it. I can show you how to do it right now if you'd like." Jack smirked at me. I nodded enthusiastically. "Just think about something that makes you feel warm and brighter. Like fun memories with friends, doing a fun hobby, or some cheesy shite like that. You'll feel like your tail is like warming up, like a preheating oven."

I followed his instructions. I thought about drawing in the park on a spring day. Eyes darting at the real life reference, as birds chirped loudly. My eyes were squeezed shut. I felt a warmth engulf my lower half. I opened my eyes and saw that my tail was a bright glowing reddish-orange. I could see pretty well now. And, hey, the temperature wasn't an issue anymore!

"That's so cool! Thanks Jack!"

"No problem." Jack paused. He looked down. "Why are you on my hand Tim?" I heard Jack mutter curiously. I looked over and saw my little Wingman Tim pushing his hand toward me. I so owe Tim for this.

I pretended to be confused, but gave Tiny Box Tim a wink when Jack wasn't looking. I felt something harshly nudging my hand too.  Now confused myself, I looked down. Sam... was trying to pull my hand towards Jack. I was exploding with happiness in the inside, but I kept a poker face. I allowed my hand to go limp, which resulted in Sam pushing my hand into Jack's. This is perfect. I gave him a look that showed that we weren't getting out of this. In my head, I was elated this was happening. Begrudging, his hand began to come closer to mine.

When Jack and I's hand made connection, Tim went off of Jack's hand climbed up my arm. He continued onto my shoulder. When I saw that Jack was distracted with Sam, I gave him a small peck on the head to show my thanks. Tim made an oh-stop-it-you! motion with his claw. Tiny Box Tim went up to the top of my head and started to play with my hair.

Sam had swam up to Jack's head and laid down. I think they exchanged some talk, but I didn't know what they were saying.

"I guess we have to go back like this." Jack awkwardly said.

"I doubt they'll let us continue if we don't." I shrugged. Hopefully not.

"Onwards!" I shouted.
