This part takes place in September, Year 1 of the Rising. The events herein occur immediately after the preceding part: Two funerals and no wedding.
Dramatis Personae
Jayran 'Jay' Iravani-Rodriguez: The focus of this scene. An alchemyst acolyte with poor facility and remarkable spunk.
Faith: A friend of Jay's. Also a Dreamer of the First Society.
Carlos Estevario: A Berserker of the Sixth Society. Now possessed of abilities beyond those of your typical Society Knight.
Ms. Iravani: Achemyst, Lawyer and Jay's mother. Referred to as 'Mum' for some reason.
Sam: High Daemon who's also a bit of an ass.
August Amanda Gaines: A former Maker of the Fourth Society, currently on the run. Also daughter of Society bigwig, Henry Gaines, the not-so-secret leader of the Socialist Cabal.

Writer's note
The hiatus is over. Coincidentally (or perhaps not), the events of Scene 15 will coincide roughly with the real world calendar.
This prologue also, perhaps, requires a trigger warning. The exact details of these triggers cannot be revealed lest they morph into spoilers. I can, however, assure you that besides occasional bad language, this scene doesn't go beyond PG-13.
