I woke up the next morning tucked in in bed. I sat up, confused. I don't remember falling asleep. I don't even remember Carl leaving last night.
I looked to my right and saw a torn off piece of paper with writing on it. It read:
"You fell asleep. Meet me outside in the morning! ~ Carl"
I smiled slightly to myself and slowly got out of bed. I looked over myself. My black tank top was tattered. My army green pants were ripped and stained. My black combat boots were covered in mud. I ran my fingers through my brown hair and sighed.
I made my way out of my cell and earned a couple of glances from some people but I shrugged it off.
I slipped out the cell block door into the blistering heat of the outdoors. The sun beat down on skin as I walked through the fields towards the gates.
Suddenly, a pair of hands grabbed my shoulders. I gasped and immediately went into defence mode. I dropped to the ground and swung my leg around, knocking the person on to their back.
I stood up to see who it was and was shocked.
"Carl! I'm so sorry!" I gasped. On the ground lay Carl. He groaned in pain and reached his hand up to me for help. I took it and pulled him to his feet.
"You gotta stop doing that!" He complained.
"Then stop scaring me!" I defended and smiled slightly.
He just smiled. "Deal." He said and chuckled.
I changed the subject. "So, what happened to me last night?" I asked.
"You fell asleep in my shoulder." He said and smirked slightly. I felt heat gather in my cheeks. A blush, I think it was called? Wow, I haven't felt one of those in a while.
"I'm sorry." I said sheepishly and he shrugged. "Don't be." He said and smiled.
We walked around the outside of the prison for a while. He told me stories about it and the few fun times they had. After a while I thought of something.
I tracked out and tapped him on the shoulder. "Tag! Your it!" I yelled and sprinted off.
"Oh there's no way your getting away!" I heard him call. I laughed. I heard his faint footsteps behind me and I quickened my pace.
After a few minuets I grew tired and I slowed. Out of no where, Carl grabbed my waist and lifted me into the air. I giggled.
He accidentally lost his footing and we both went tumbling to the ground.
We both lay beside each other laughing until our sides hurt. Once the laughter stopped I got serious.
"Carl?" I asked, staring up at the sky.
"Yeah?" He said.
"We're best friends, right?" I asked. He turned his head to look at me.
"Let's make a pact. We are best friends. We'd do anything to protect each other and won't let anyone hut the other." He stated and I nodded.
"Deal. Pinky promise?" I asked in a child's voice.
He chuckled. "Pinky promise." He confirmed and we locked pinkies.
Finally, someone who I could let my walls down with.
