Carl and I were running for what felt like forever, until we finally collapsed onto the ground in a wheat field.

Panting, we both stared up at the sky. I finally turned onto my side to look at Carl who was still staring upward. I out a hand on his chest and he shut his eyes.

"Carl?" I breathed. One of his hands came and gripped mine.

"You're still here." He said in relief. I stared at him.

"Of course I'm still here. I'm never leaving." I promised.

He opened his blue eyes and stared into my dull hazel ones.

"Promise?" He said and held up his pinky finger. I laughed, remembering out first pinky promise back at the...prison.

I linked my pinky with his and smiled. I released it and stood up, no matter how bad my muscles cried out. Carl got up after me.

I looked around. "Where are we?" I asked. Carl looked around as well.

"Not on course, that's for sure." He answered.

I sighed and ran my hand hastily through my hair. To be honest, I was pretty freaked out.

"This is not good." I said and began to turn in circles. "Not good." I repeated over an over. Carl tried to grab me.

"Mikayla. Calm down." Carl said but I didn't.

Carl finally grabbed my shoulders and spun me to face him.

"Look at me. Right at me." He said and I obeyed.

"We're going to be alright. We are smart and know how to survive." He said. I nodded.

"We have guns and knives and ammo. We have..." He paused and I stared at his face.

"We have each other." He said. I smiled slightly.

I broke out if his grasp and grabbed his neck. I brought my lips to his ins passionate kiss. His arms wrapped around my waist protectively.

I pulled away and rested my forehead against his.

"Each other." I said.

And with what, we began to navigate out way out of the field hand in hand.

Each other. That's all we needed.
