Distance and...Crushes?

It's been about a week since my run it with Alex. I was still a little bruised and weak but I could walk about and keep watch so I wasn't completely useless.

But things aren't going so well. Carl had been really distant these days. He barely talks to me, only when he has to. He gets mad at me easily. I miss him. I miss they way he used to be.

I was up in the watch tower with Maggie. I had my gun up and scanned the area, finding nothing I lowered my gun and sighed.

"Are you all right?" Maggie asked me, her country accent shining through in her voice.

I sighed again and sat by the wall. "No. Not really." I answered truthfully. There was no point in lying. Besides, I can trust Maggie.

She walked over and kneeled beside me. "It's Carl isn't it?" She said. I looked at her.

"Is it that obvious?" I asked and she nodded. I had to admit, it was pretty obvious.

"What happened?" She asked and I looked at my hands.

"I don't know. He's just been so distant lately. He gets mad at me all the time. Avoids me. Barely talks to me. He's supposed to be my best friend." I said quietly.

Maggie...smiled? She was smiling. After what I just told her, she was smiling?

"Why are you smiling?!" I asked, slightly angered. She just smiled wider and stood up.

"Your so clueless, Mikayla." She said and began to walk away.

"Clueless?!" I called after her. I was so confused.

"Didn't anyone tell you that when a boy picks on you, he actually has a crush in you?" She called over her shoulder and disappeared from sight.

A crush? On me? She thought Carl had a crush on me? No way. It's not possible. We're just friends. He only thinks of me as a friend and I only though of him as a friend...right?
