I ran down the halls and to my first period. I was late again. I ran into someone and fell to the ground. I looked up to see Declan. His lip twitched up but he didn't smile.

"What the heck! Watch where you're going!" I grumbled at him. He started laughing.

"Selena you are about as terrifying as a kitten. So why are you late to class?" he asked.

"Brother woke me up late," I replied. Declan held out his hand and I grabbed it. He yanked me up quickly.

"Oh I figured it was because you were too busy being insane to get in your mom's car," he laughed. I smiled.

"That's called selective sanity." The bell rang. First period was over. I had missed it again.

"You've already missed one class. What's the point of going to the others?" he whispered in my ear.

"I don't suppose there is a point. What are you planning?"

"Well you know how there is an assembly today?" I nodded. "Well what if we dump smile on the principal?" I smiled.

"Last one to your car is a rotten egg with mayo on top!" I screamed and took off down the hall.

"Hey! No fair!" I laughed and pushed myself to run faster. A girl was leaning against his car. I smiled politely at her.

"Hey Celeste," Declan said. "Why are you here? I thought you were still at that dance school?"

"Nope. I got a week off. So who's this girl that's making you smile? You haven't done that for awhile. Not since-" Declan quickly cut her off.

"This is Selena. She's on the dance team with me," he replied.

"Hi," I smiled at her.

"Are you a friend of his?" Celeste asked.

"I'm not sure. We just started talking yesterday," I replied.

"Well I have to be going actually. But why don't you come for dinner?" she asked.

"I'll have to talk to my mom but I probably can."

She left and we got into his car. His fingers drummed against the wheel as he drove. We pulled up outside the store and went in. He grabbed containers of green goo and then we left. It took an hour for us to rig the buckets up.

During the assembly most of the students were asleep until the slime dropped on all the teachers. Declan grinned at me before we left. I walked out to the parking lot to talk to Brian then began to head home. A car pulled up beside me.

"Hey Selena!" Declan said.

"Yes?" I replied.

"Get in. I'll drive you home."

"Hmm...And what if I want to go dance in the rain? Or run through the mud?" I asked with a smile.

"Then I might come get you or maybe join you!" he replied with a laugh. I walked to his car and got in.

"So are you going to come to dinner tonight?" he asked, sounding a little nervous.

"Sure it sounds like fun. Where do you live?"

"Great. I'll come by at five and bring you over. You don't need to dress up."

We pulled up outside my house and I got out. Five was in an hour and a half. I dashed to the shower then did my hair and makeup. I walked to my closet looking for something to wear. I pulled out a pair of ripped skinny jeans and a blue camisole under a leather jacket.

Right at five the doorbell rang. I raced downstairs and punched Josh when he tried to beat me to the door. I swung open the door and smiled at Declan. He handed me a white rose. My mother came to take it from me and we left.

"You look great Selena. I told you that you didn't need to dress up though," he said as we drove down the street. We turned a corner and then he pulled into the driveway. "Surprise. Walking I live about five minutes away."

"We could have walked," I replied.

"We can walk back."

We went inside and a woman with a baby on her hip appeared. A little girl was holding onto the woman's apron strings and Celeste came out. Declan kissed the woman, his mother, on the cheek and scooped up the little girl.

"Hi I'm Declan's mother June. This is April and May," she saaid pointing to the little girl and then the baby.

"Hello. i'm Selena."

"Well Selena you are very pretty. Would you mind taking May for a minute?" I shook my head no and was handed the adorable baby.

Declan walked into the living room and I followed. He sat down next to me. I laughed as the baby played with my hair. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Declan watching me and grinning.

"Holy crap Selena how did you manage to make my son smile?" June said.

"I have no clue."

After dinner Declan walked me back to my house. I fell asleep that night with a smile on my face.
