Chapter 1 - The Past

When I was a little girl, I lived a happy life together with my parents and siblings. My parents had both chosen to become warriors and for that they trained their entire life.

We were part of the Ventus Pack, which was located in the North. Ventus means wind. The reason that we were practically called the Wind Pack, is because our village was placed high in the mountain where the coldest wind blows. There was no snow though, which you would expect since the wind was cold and mostly you get snow when there is such a low temperature. Luckily that ice cold wind only was temporarily, like a snow storm. It comes, stays for a little time, and then goes away.

In the summer it was with us like, 10 degrees when it was 26 degrees at the middle packs and about 40, or sometimes even 50 degrees at the southern packs. Because of the temperature the Alpha meetings were, and still are, most of the times in the middle packs. I doubt I'd even survive if I would go to one of the southern packs back then.

Aged 4 my pack was being attacked by rogues, at least we thought so. The leader of the attacking pack told the lower ranked wolves to step back when they were fighting with us. Instead of a war, they wanted peace with us and asked us if they could live in our pack. Our Alpha went to talk with their leader and when they were out of sight you could slowly see a lot of pups coming out of the bushes, walking towards their parents. They were unsure what to do, but a few curious pups walked towards us and started playing. Eventually it resulted in grown-up packmember and rouges playing together with all the pups, our pups and the rouge pups. Back then I was playing with one of the more calm rouge pups.

His name was Davy and he was just about one month older. He had two little sisters, they were twins aged 2 and one older brother, but I've never met him. A few times Davy told me about his brother though, he used to tell me his brother was going to be a warrior. Both for the pack and for the girl he would fall in love with, even though he didn't think about girls yet. He also told me that his brother had black, unruly hair which gave him constantly the look like he had just come out of his bed.

As soon as our Alpha and their leader came walking back you could see them looking surprised. After all, who would've guessed this would happen?
This all resulted in the rogues being accepted as our packmembers, but unfortunately the happiness didn't last long.

Seven months later there was a real attack, again by rogues. This time it was a big group and it wanted revenge, because we killed one of theirs that came on our territory and attacked one of the pups playing outside. I mean, what kind of creature attacks an innocent kid?

That one, obviously.

The group was almost double the size of our warriors and they were a lot stronger. There was a long battle that lasted almost seven hours, which caused chaos among the packmembers that were still alive.

I remember my mum and dad telling me to hide in our hiding spot in the cellar. I walked into the cellar and turned around, getting behind the stairs to open the door to the hiding spot. There was canned food and some drink in there to make sure that you could at least hide a week or two in it. I vaguely heard the screams of my family and friends being murdered outside. After what felt like days I opened the little sneak peak, like I used to call it, and I listened if I heard anyone.

Nothing.

Complete and utter silence. The only thing you could hear was the sound of the wind softly blowing to the town. I decided to keep the sneak peak open, it's basically just a ventilation, to make sure that I could hear it if there was anyone. Sitting on the small bed that was placed in the room I fell asleep, waiting for someone to come and get me out of here. When I woke up I heard voices.

"Mark, we have to look for survivors, even though it look like the whole pack is dead. They were my family, my sister and her family lived here. Let me take a look in the house, please." I heard a familiar voice ask. I just can't place it.

"Sure, like you said, they were your family after all. Take all the time you need friend. I'm sorry for your loss."

Footsteps walking on the floor above me were to be heard. They seemed to walk to the kitchen, and the living room after. Slowly the person walked towards the door that leads to the cellar and opened it. When the person started to walk down the stairs I was slightly panicking. What if this was a complete stranger that wanted me dead too? Even though I walked to the door, slightly opening it as I heard three knocks. As soon as I looked towards the person I opened the door completely and jumped in his arms. It was my uncle, uncle Derek.

Finally someone had come to save me.

Eventually I had been three days in the cellar. It had cost a day to get the news of the attack to the Alpha's and about 2 days to get there. When they arrived there was nothing left they could do to help my pack. The strange thing was that most of the kids bodies and also some of the adults bodies weren't found until weeks later, when their corpses popped up spreaded over all the packs. A total of 17 bodies of kids were found and 5 adults. Even with those bodies there was counted a total of 139 people, while there were 165 in our pack. It is assumed that the remaining ones were used as slaves or that they were sold on the black market.

What terrifies me most is that I don't know what happened to Davy since he was one of the people that weren't found back. I still hope that he is somewhere out there, fighting to stay alive.
