The car pulled up at the beach as I surveyed the scene outside the window.
The day couldn't have been more perfect.
The sun was shining through the billowy clouds and there was a light breeze blowing off the ocean.
Talia stepped out first. She looked radiant in her scarlet red halter neck maid of honour dress. The red complimented the red roses I had in my bouquet.
Mum gave me a quick kiss and hurried to take her seat. We were already fashionably 20 mins late and the ceremony could not be delayed any longer.
Dad stepped out and reached his hand for me. This was it. The last leg of my journey before I became Zac's wife.
Our beach that we had spent so many happy times together was decorated with rows of white chairs. A wooden path had been constructed on the sand for stability. At the end of the path stood Kai in his position as best man. Next to him stood my future husband. My Zachary. The boy who had given me my first kiss. The boy who had given me his heart. The boy who had pledged his love to me.
Now there he stood, a man. We had shared so much of our lives together. We had shared so many memories. Now we would be embarking on our next adventure together.
"Ready little Britt?" My dad asked. I nodded as Talia led the way down the aisle.
I could hear the gasps and sighs of the assembled guests. We had only invited close friends and family. We had wanted to make this our special time.
Despite the sighs of approval and mutters of congratulations I only had one sight on my mind. My Zac waiting for me at the end of the aisle.
As I approached the front with Dad, he gave me a quick peek on the cheek before leading me to my destiny.
I stood before Zac and stared into his blue eyes. The same blue eyes that had enchanted me that first day I saw him at school.
I passed my bouquet to Talia and held Zac's hands. I was truly in heaven.
"We are gathered here today to celebrate the love that Zachary and Brittany have for each other and bear witness to their commitment to each other as they move forward onto the next step of their lives..."
The ceremony went beautifully and before we knew it Zac and I were swaying under the fairy lights of the marquee that served as our reception venue.
"Britt, remember that first dance we declared our love in front of everybody? Care to repeat that?"
He turned his face towards mine and softly kissed me. He had kissed me a million times before but now he was kissing me as my husband. I still couldn't believe it!
"Some how I think people get the idea that we love each other. I mean they are here for our wedding."
Zac laughed and spun me around.
I looked at the dance floor. Dad and Mum were dancing close looking very much in love. Zac's parents were laughing with each other at the bridal table. Kai and Ronnie were staring adoringly into each others eyes. Even Talia had found it in her heart to forgive the hurt Blaine had caused her in the past and was dancing quite intimately with him. Wait a minute! They started kissing each other passionately. Perhaps there would be another wedding to plan soon I thought to myself.
The emcee then announced that it was time for the Daddy/Daughter dance. Zac respectfully stepped away as my Dad came over to take his place. His eyes shone with pure pride. I had always been a Daddy's girl. Of course I loved both my parents deeply but Dad and I always had this special connection. I knew that although I was starting my life now as Zac's wife, I'd always be my Daddy's little girl. His little Britt.
"You look so beautiful. I'm so proud of you. Both your mum and I..."
His voice trailed off as tears started to fall.
"Dad. You're going to make me cry now."
I blinked furiously in an effort to stop the tears.
The song changed and Zac came over.
"Mind if I have the next dance with my wife? he politely asked my Dad.
"Take good care of her. She's one in a million."
Dad took his leave and embraced my Mum who was waiting on the side of the dance floor.
I held onto Zac tight. I didn't want to forget this day, our wedding day. I knew this was only the beginning of many wonderful memories to come.

Several months later I found myself typing the conclusion on my last article for the day and pressing send.
I looked around my study at the awards and accolades that were hung on the walls. I may not have been chasing the big stories that I had writing in London but Mandy had been true to her word and kept me on as a valued member of staff.
My hands automatically started to rub my belly. I was starting to show now. The first hints of pregnancy coming through. Zac and I had been ecstatic at the news that a baby was on its way. We still had many weeks to go but I couldn't help but wonder whether our baby would realise the journey Zac and I had taken to get here.
Little seeds started to grow in my mind. My thoughts of my first meeting with Zac. Our first kiss. My fight and reunion with Talia and the ultimate declaration of love between Zac and myself. I knew I wanted to share this story with my children one day. For them to understand the pure love that they had come from. Our happiness, our struggles. The events in our lives that shaped who we were today.
I opened my laptop and started to draft the outline. I found the words starting to flow quite easily.
A good story always needs a good title. I leaned back in my chair, hands on my belly contemplating this.
Of course. That was it! I had the perfect title.
My fingers ran across the keyboard. I paused to observe my work. There is was in black and white on my screen...MY BEST FRENEMY.
