you were cranky because you'd tried to avoid the morning rush by waking up earlier. now you were extra annoyed because it still caught up to you.
why did your friends have to plan a breakfast meeting? what happened to lunch or brunch? or even dinner. anything that didn't involve getting out of bed earlier than necessary. you would have taken a raincheck if it weren't for the fact that you all being in the city at the same time was a rare occurrence and today was the only day everyone could make time out of their hectic schedules to meet up.
you rubbed your cold hands together before taking your phone out of your pocket to check if everyone else was already heading out to the restaurant you picked as a meeting place. right at that moment, someone ran past you, bumping into you.
your phone clattered to the ground in the process. the stranger didn't bother to glance back much less apologise as they continued on their way. "jackass," you glared lethally after the person before looking down. just as you were about to lean down and pick up your phone, someone beat you to it.
"here you go." the man straightened, stretching out a hand. "thank–" you froze when you glanced at him.
your eyes widened and your mouth fell open. you had to be hallucinating. otherwise, why would kim namjoon be staring back at you?
he smiled a little at your reaction, causing his dimples to appear and your heart stopped. they were even more spectacular in real life. he was more spectacular in real life.
he started to look a bit shy, eyes shifting away from yours and you realised you were gawking. and you still hadn't taken your phone back.
quickly, you grabbed it, your face flushing a little. "thank you." your voice was higher than you expected. you grimaced at the sound that always came with you being too nervous. "you're welcome."
you were trying so hard not to fangirl, it was taking all of your energy. but you really didn't want to scare him away or disrespect his privacy. "thank you again." you enunciated slowly, as though the words were difficult to say. none of your friends would believe that you actually met the kim namjoon. but you didn't think you were going to tell them anyway.
forcing yourself to move, you started to step around him. "um, excuse me?" you stopped at the sound of namjoon's voice.
"hmm?" you turned to him with a hum, not wanting to risk your voice getting high again. "would you happen to know where la vita is? i'm supposed to meet someone there but i'm a bit lost."
your heart went haywire. "la vita? the restaurant?" you echoed and he nodded in reply. "that's where i'm headed now." you managed to keep your voice on a low even though you were screaming inside.
"really? can i walk with you?" he asked. like he even needed to. "yeah, sure, of course." you nodded with false coolness, mentally thanking your friends for insisting on breakfast.
you pursed your lips, not knowing what to say as you walked and wondering why you'd agreed to this. your normally extroverted self had suddenly disappeared as you were at a loss for words. you just kept stealing glances at him, trying to remind yourself this was real and wondering if he expected you to say anything.
"i'm namjoon." he suddenly introduced after you snuck another peek at him. you turned to him then, a little surprised, almost saying that you knew but stopping yourself in time. "um," you mumbled shyly before telling him your name.
"pretty name." he smiled down at you. your heart picked up once more. if he kept smiling like that, you might actually have a seizure. "thanks," you squeaked.
"do you live here?" he asked. you nodded. "for school?" he asked again. "yeah." you answered softly. he kept the conversation going until you felt comfortable enough to reply him like a normal person. it was a sweet gesture you appreciated.
he laughed at something you said just as you stopped in front of la vita. sighing internally, you wished you could spend more time with him.
"we're here." you mumbled a bit sadly. "oh," he looked up like he hadn't realised that you'd arrived or even stopped walking. he opened the door to let you in, following after you.
you glanced around the beautiful space and found your friends sitting at a table next to the windows. when your gaze moved back to namjoon, he was looking back at you again.
"it was nice meeting you." you told him. "do you have a pen?" he asked softly. you raised your brows, surprised that he ignored what you said. "yeah," you answered as you searched your purse and gave it to him.
he took your hand and the pen in one swift movement. then he quickly scribbled something on your palm. you just stared at him in surprise. "make sure you call me." he placed the pen on your open palm and wrapped your fingers around it gently.
"it was nice meeting you too," he smiled before leaving you standing there in a daze. you stared after him as he headed towards one of the tables. then you looked back down at your hand where his number was oddly neatly written.
kim namjoon gave you his private number.
resisting the urge to shriek in excitement, you turned toward your friends who seemed to be having a light-hearted conversation we they waited for you. you calmed yourself and made your way to your favourite people.
this was officially the best day of your life.
