Chapter 3: Relaxation

The day dragged on as I attended the last of my classes for the day. My mind pulled up the conversation Kristen and I had and I remembered that I was supposed to meet her after class in the courtyard. The bell rang, signaling the end of the school day; I quickly gathered my books and took long strides as I headed towards my dorm. 

'I'll just drop off my books and see if Kristen is there. . . Then we can finally hang out like the old days!' I thought happily as I arrived at my dorm.

I dropped my books atop my bed as I grabbed things that I  would need and headed out the door. I walked through the halls, my feet hitting the granite floors with a muffled clack, a smile evidently showed on my face. The memories of my times with my best friend truly filled me with bliss. As I reached the courtyard doors, I opened them, raising my arm to shield the intense sunlight from my face. I walked into the protective shade of one of the trees and decided to look around for my friend. As I scanned the courtyard, at the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of strawberry blonde hair. I turned around to see my friend standing with others... The popular crowd to be exact... I gritted my teeth just at the sight of them. A feeling of hatred built up inside me but vanished as Kristen turned around and acknowledged me with a smile. She beckoned me over yet the glares of the other members of the popular crowd said otherwise. Ignoring the glares, I reluctantly made my way over to her. I finally reached her and gave her a smile, while precariously looking each of the members in the eye. Seeing that they clearly rejected my presence, yet they didn't make any move to shoo me away. With that I turned my attention back to Kristen. 

"So, ready to hang out?" I asked her.

I saw one of her genuine smiles grace her lips as the excitement was evident. I couldn't help but smile as I saw my friend happy.

"Yup! Ready to go!" she said.

"Alright then, let's head somewhere, your pick." I grinned.

Kristen waved bye to her 'friends' as she walked with me in the opposite direction. As I looked warily, the members cheerfully waved goodbye to her, then turned their attention to once again glare at me.

'Hmph, what's their problem... Too arrogant for their own good I see. . . Ugh, how did my best friend get caught up in THAT . . .? ‘I thought with mild scorn.

Brushing the thought aside, I brought my attention back to the fact that I was finally going to spend time with my best friend. Just like old times. I smiled, not caring to hide it. What was there to hide? 

"Let's head into the town, is that alright?" Kristen asked.

"Huh? Haha, like I said, wherever you wanna go Kris," 

We both grinned at the sound of hearing Kristen's pet name. That pet name hasn't been said since we came to Pharen High... It felt slightly foreign on my tongue but the feeling went away as fast as it came. Adrenaline pumped through our bodies as we readied ourselves for the time of fun that was to come.

A/N: . . . whoa, just realized how short this chapter was!! Sorry!! :( Some of the next chapters should be longer than this! :) Thanks to all of you who are following my updates and stuff :) Gives me good motivation and confidence! :D
