Where were you?

She used to be a Daisy

rising up through the cracks of the ground to show the world

her beauty

with a smile more radiant than the morning sun

and eyes that glistened with the happiness she tried to contain

within her body

She was beautiful

Where were you when that ended?

When her happiness stopped coming from her in waves

and her radiant smile that seemed to never end

dimmed

What were you doing?

What were you doing when she said her last

"I love you,"

words that used to cascade freely from her lips

like an uncontrollable waterfall

stopped flowing and the rivers and the lakes ran dry

Who were you with when the texts stop coming and your phone stopped ringing,

and you stopped feeling her ever constant and adoring presence

Did you wonder what happened?

Did you stop and wonder what happened to the melodious sound of laughter

that used to float from deep within the confines of her heart,

but were now trapped and lodged somewhere behind her tears

Did you question when the ever present soft caress of her fingers left your skin,

and you never felt its return,

when in the journey she stopped holding your hand

Why didn't you ask why was she so sad,

were you so scared to discover that you had broken her

Did you even wonder where the warm lips that greeted you with a gentle kiss had gone,

or why they'd turned cold

Were you so scared

Scared that you had carelessly picked the beautiful flower

from the crack in the ground

and forgotten to feed it's soul and nurture its passions

were you so scared that it was your fault

that you left.

She used to be a Daisy

rising through the cracks of the ground

with a smile more radiant than the sun

She was beautiful

Where were you when that ended?
