*Doctor's POV*

"Sweetie," River said softly, "I hate to burst your bubble, but you can't go to Gallifrey. There are too many risks for a time paradox."

"No, you see, that's the brilliant thing," the Doctor replied, his excitement unwavering, "I left before the Time War even started. There's no chance of me seeing myself!"

"So, how do we get there?" Amy asked before River could object any further. The Doctor blinked in surprise; he hadn't thought of that. The Doctor looked around for an idea when his eyes fell on one.

"Aha!" he cried triumphantly as he grabbed River's wrist and began sonicing the vortex manipulator that resided there. "I'll just.... lock onto the T.A.R.D.I.S signals and we'll be there before you can say 'Timelord'!"

"Timelord," River whispered with a small laugh.

The Doctor pretended he hadn't heard her. "Now let's go save Christy!"

"Wait." Rory said.

"What is it Rory?!" the Doctor asked impatiently, "We don't have time to dally!"

"Sorry, but I have to ask: is Chris the daughter of you and River somehow?" Rory asked, "Because you seem pretty antsy or a little attached to her. And she sort of looks and sounds like you. She even acts like River sometimes." (Y'all have no idea how many readers asked me this when I first began writing this story xD)

"Wha-" the Doctor began, confused and a little flustered, "No! She isn't- How-why- you didn't tell him?" the Doctor demanded, looking to Amy.

"Well, there wasn't enough time!" Amy snapped, "It slipped my mind."

"Well," the Doctor gestured from Rory to Amy and back again. He didn't want any confusions on this mission.

"What?" Amy asked.

The Doctor gestured even faster. "Tell him!"

"Oh! Right." Amy walked to Rory and whispered in his ear while the Doctor tapped his foot impatiently.

"Sounds like me?" the Doctor added with a confused look.

"The way she explains things," Rory said as he listened to Amy, "Wait. He does? Him?" Rory said pointing at the Doctor, "He has a si-Oh!" Rory looked at the Doctor, thinking about what he said, "Oh. Oh. I-I-"

"We're wasting time!" River warned.

"Yes! We are and this no time to follow rule 408!" the Doctor said as he grabbed Amy and Rory's hands to place them on the vortex manipulator. The Doctor hit the red button and with a ZAP! they were gone.

***

ZAP! Everyone fell to the ground.

"Amy," Rory groaned, "Do you mind getting off my stomach." Amy slowly stood up.

The Doctor quickly jumped up, cracking his back and neck in the process. He hated vortex manipulators, but at least they but at least the arrived safely. He did a quick check of everyone and found them to be a little bruised and battered, but still in one piece. "Well," the Doctor said clapping his hands together once, "That worked."

"Personally, I didn't think it would work," River whispered smiling.

"I wasn't entirely sure it would work myself, but it was worth a shot." the Doctor replied.

"Why wouldn't it have worked?" Amy asked sharply.

"The Time War is under a time lock. nothing can get in or out," the Doctor answered absentmindedly, "Well, Dalek Caan did, but he went mad after trying."

"I'm not reading or seeing the T.A.R.D.I.S anywhere, Doctor." River said looking at her communicator. The Doctor looked around, thinking and taking in the familiar sights. A rush of nostalgia befell him as he stared out a window, looking to the sky where its two moons and stars could still be seen despite it being mid-afternoon.

"There are only two possibilities to explain that," he said, tearing his vision from the sight, "One: the Zegoraths figured out how to control the T.A.R.D.I.S control sequence to push away any followers. It's doubtful that's the case of course."

"Or?" River asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Or the T.A.R.D.I.S pushed us away herself." the Doctor replied as he paced with his tongue out.

"We're definitely on Gallifrey. In a barrack I'd say." he said moments later, looking around the mars red room. It had no furniture, only windows and a few beds.

"Right you are," a voice said behind him as the Doctor heard the low hum of a laser, "now put your hands to the back of your heads and tell me who you are, what you're doing here, and how you got inside. Try anything funny and I will shoot without a second thought."

The Doctor placed his hands behind his head and slowly turned around to find a girl about his height with dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, and freckles across her nose. Even though it had been years- maybe even centuries- since he had last seen her and she had never let him see her with a gun or in her uniform, the Doctor recognized her immediately. It would be impossible for the 900-year-old Timelord not to.

"Writer!" he said softly, a smile growing on his face.
