[Arthit]

'Just be yourself.' She said.

'You'll do great.' She said.

What the hell was that supposed to mean?

Arthit clasped his hands together, giving it a nervous squeeze. The last time he checked his phone, the time read 6:12 PM. His date was arriving at 6:30 PM.

In a secluded corner of a hotel lounge, Arthit was beginning to understand the meaning behind, 'adversity is the first path to truth.'

He just needed to get through this hurdle to understand his peculiar predicament.

It had been two weeks since he last saw Kongpob. Even though he was absent, Arthit could visualize him here now. The hotel he was currently in was majestic. It sprawled out in a hidden valley, a little over a half hour drive from where he lived.

Bordered by a forest, a large lake hugged the side of the structure, spreading out into the horizon. Along with the assemblage of string lights, the fancy docks with boats bobbing along its side... it was a different world; Kongpob's world.

But now was not the time to be thinking about Kongpob.

He had a date.

Anxiously readjusting himself in his seat, he soothed out the invisible wrinkle on his light-blue oxford shirt.

Everything tonight was arranged by Namtan. The location, the time, his outfit, all the way down to his shoes. He didn't even know he owned a pair of loafers until she pulled them out last night.

His date was an IT technician who worked a department over from Namtan. Out of the large collection of photos, she had looked the most good-natured. He needed an amiable person on a night like tonight.

It was any minute now.

His date would be soon arriving.

Just the thought of it caused him to break out into cold sweat. He dried his moist hands on the side his thighs, working to control his breathing.

He needed to think about something else to calm his nerves. Anything, like...

'How doth the little crocodile

Improve his shining tail

And pour the waters of the N–' [1]

"Khun Arthit?"

"—!...?"

Arthit looked up at the owner of the voice; something was off.

A...

...man?

"Yes?" Arthit answered. His watch read 6:24 PM.
