We all hopped off the ship and onto the dark, forested island. Matthew climbed down last and pulled out three torches from his belt.I hadn't even thought about how we’d see in the forest. I don't think anyone did. Smart kid.
He holds out the torches to Hakori.
“Do the honors.” Matthew said, shining his adorable smile and pushing his nerd glasses closer to his face.
Hakori effortlessly flicked her wrist forming a bright fireball. Once all three torches were lit, Hakori instantly stopped using her magic, probably to save it for a more eventful occasion.
Matthew handed Jayden and I a torch and carried one himself.
“To the library!” Matthew cheered, excitedly.
We began to march into the forest, with Liam leading us. He seemed to know exactly where to go.
We walked between the tall trees and crunched on the leaves below our feet, but not long after, we all simultaneously stopped.
I was the first one to speak as we stared at what was ahead. “Is that...an abandoned village?” I asked.
Liam nodded. “The library's at the end of it.”
We began to walk through the creepy village. All of the houses were demolished and some seemed like they were burned to the ground.
It was humid, with not a single wind, making it difficult to breathe. The air was quite thick and foggy but, the torches managed to light the way.
“Well, hello again, gorgeous.” Jayden says and speed walked to catch up with me.
“Hi.” I answered.
Jayden grasped my free hand and planted a lingering kiss. “Haven't seen you in awhile.” He said, still holding my hand and giving me a charming smile.
“Uh-ye-yeah.” I answered giving him a nervous laugh.
“Can you not be horny for once in your pitiful life?” Hakori says to Jayden, from behind us.
She pulled his hand away from mine. “Leave her alone.” She said.
Jayden scowled at her. “Don't be such a stick in the mud.” He says.
Hakori’s eyebrows furrow together in anger.
Uh oh. Hakori's not a force to be reckoned with Jayden.
Hakori stepped in between us. “You're the one who's going to be a stick in the mud, once I'm done with you.” Hakori spat viciously.
ABORT.
I slowed down my walking pace, not wanting to get caught up in Hakori and Jayden's bickering. I ended up walking side by side with Katelyn.
“Hi.” I said glancing at her awkwardly.
Katelyn gave me a smile, but didn't respond.
“I think your an amazing archer.” I tell her, picturing the arrow she shot at the kraken.
“Thanks.” She answered.
We were silent for a bit, then she spoke again. “In case you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly much of a talker.”
“No kidding.” I said and we both chuckled.
“Look.” Katelyn says pointing forward. I followed the direction of her finger catching sight of the tall building in between the fog.
