Christmas was wonderful! Grandma absolutely adored the diamond necklace! She said I didn't have to spend so much money. But it was totally worth every penny to see my grandma's one million dollar smile. I haven't heard anything about Micah. My life is great right now.
Alex bit the inside of her cheek. She looked at the white marble ground. Emeralda pounded on the desk in front of her.
"Well?!" she demanded. "Why are you here now?! I'm surprised your grandmother didn't send you sooner!"
"My grandma? What does she have to do with this?" Alex blurted.
Emeralda cackled. "She hasn't told you?! You've got to be kidding!"
Alex stared at the team with a confused look on her face. Emeralda frowned. Xanthous gaped at the girl. Violetta was fed up.
"Of course, she doesn't know! Just tell her already!" Violetta dictated.
Emeralda shot Violetta a nasty look. She turned to Alex and rose from her chair. She straightened her jean jacket as she walked down the steps that led up to the Fairy Authority Team's desk.
"You see, Alex, you were born from a magical background," she started.
"I guess, you could say that."
"But, of course, most children grow up reading and listening to fairy tales. See, what makes that special is everyone has some form of magic to their childhood," Emeralda explained. "What makes you and your brother any different is, well, you are the offspring of a fairy."
Alex shook her head. There was no way she was half fairy! Arthur glanced at Alex, and then at Emeralda.
"I know it's a lot to take in especially since you've just arrived," Emeralda continued. "I don't want to stress you any longer unless you'd like to know more."
"More?"
"Oh, yes. There's much, much more to explain."
Alex felt lightheaded and obliged to sit down desperately. She reached out her arm to Arthur's shoulder but missed. Arthur grabbed her arm in front of him. He hoisted Alex onto his shoulder with a grunt. "Excuse us."
Arthur, with Alex, still slung over his broad shoulders, hurried down the steps leading up to the Fairy Court House. He put Alex down on the last step delicately. He stepped over to a well and filled up the bucket. Arthur tossed the bucket of water on Alex. She woke immediately with sputtering gasps.
Alex glanced up at Arthur with the bucket in his hand. "What was that?!"
"You passed out."
"So you throw a bucket of water on me?!" Alex cried drying the water off her face with her shirt.
"It's the innocuous way to bring someone back to cognizance," Arthur explained helping Alex to her feet.
Alex smiled at Arthur and they walked up the staircase to the courthouse.
When they finally made it up the stairs, the two walked into the courtroom where Esmeralda was still looking very angry. She wore an even more pissed off frown than before, like Alex's passing out was on purpose. Alex walked forward to the big long desk where the fairies were perched.
"What else do I need to know? Why am I so significant?" Alex asked the team.
Emeralda sat up straight. "The reason why we are so concerned about is, you are the heir to the authority of being the Fairy Godmother."
"The Fairy Godmother? And, I'm the heir? How is this possible?" Alex asked.
"Have you ever wondered where your grandmother truly went before these wretched scientists came?" the green fairy inquired coolly.
"Occasionally, but I just thought that she went outside of the country."
"That, I'm afraid is very unlikely."
