(flashback from way back when)

Alison's pov

I'm looking forward for tonight's sleepover.

We're having it at Spencer's family lakehouse, and its going to be the five of us this time, in that huge luxurious Hastings manor by the lake. Emily wasn't around the last time we had a sleepover, said she's got family thing going on, and I was disappointed really. Party's kinda boring for me without Em.

Speaking of, I'm going to drop by her house this afternoon before I'll meet mom. Emily has a thing for snowglobes, and I found this really cute one at April Rose Antiques, and it just reminded me of her. I bought it right away for her. I know she'll love it.

"Hi Mrs. Fields!" I saw Em's mom gardening by their porch, "Is Emily in?"

"Hi Alison!...no she's not, you just missed her. She said she'll just take a run by Wright's Park before heading to Spencer's. Is everything alright?"

"Of course Mrs. Fields! I just felt like dropping by...I guess I'll just meet her at Spencer's," I said a little dismayed.

But instead of going straight to meet mom, I walked briskly to find Emily at Wright's Park. It's not that far, and if anyone's up for a little work out, a little jog there won't hurt.

I reached the park in no time and looked around. And there she was, sweet Emily in her sweats and earphones stretching her long legs by the park bench. I walked up to her, and pulled her earphones.

"Hey!" Stunned, she turned to me. "Ali! What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to meet your mom?"

"Not before meeting you first...what's with the work out?"

"I got bored..."

I didn't believe her for one second. Something's up. "Really...?"

"Ali..."

"Come, sit...tell me,"

She took a deep breath, avoiding eye contact. I just hate it when I see her like this. All sad eyes and bothered.

"Dad's not going home for another eight months and Mom's acting weird," She said after a while of silence.

Her dad's in the army, stationed in some war zone in the middle east. It's scary, that's the life you deal with when you have to uphold a certain duty. Emily knows that, but it pains her anyway not to see her dad, and see her mom fuss away the worry on some chores. I hugged her and whispered to her ear..

"It'll be fine...I got something for you," I reluctantly let go of her and handed the paper bag I'm holding. "Open it..."

"What is this?"

"I remembered you when I saw that...so I bought it and decided to give it to you,"

"Ali...its beautiful," Her face brightened, exactly what I'm aiming for. "I love it, thank you"

Emily always has the best smile. It's bright and infectious, and it makes her even more beautiful. I'll just do about anything to make her smile, 'cause its the best.

"I'll see you at the sleepover tonight?" She asked.

"Of course, I'll be there..." I said as I stood to leave, "I'm just gonna go see my mom...see you later, Em"

"Yep...see you there,"

I bounced my way but before I was completely out of sight, I glanced back at Emily, who's smiling now as she shook the snow globe looking at it on eye level. That's just what I need to make my day...

And with Emily at the sleepover, that's just what I need to complete my night as well...
