Emily's pov

Soleil Marie Norton.

According to her information that was promptly uncovered by these diligent members of Allegiance, Soleil is a socialite, art curator, painter, art gallery owner, old-money aristocrat and a male pseudohermaphrodite, born with male genitalia but developed as a female growing up. She's taking a number of medications since puberty, and one can only guess who manufactures all those meds.

Just how many lives exactly these mad scientists are gonna destroy? I don't know the scientific details or the medical terms that explains how Soleil's meds turned her into half human, half feline over night, but I do know for sure that her life will never be the same ever again.

And what bothers me more is that, there isn't much I can do about it.

"She'll be in good hands... the doctors here will take great care of her,"

Out of thin air, Matt suddenly materialized next to me, watching Soleil through the thick glass of the observation room. He seems to be all over the place lately, and even though I've known him to be as a nice guy, I still can't help it but feel annoyed by his unannounced presence.

"Where did you say you found her again?" He asked detachedly.

"In the middle of the road, about forty five miles northeast outside of Rosewood town proper," I said with equal detachment in my tone, but my insides were very much affected.

It's getting more frequent. The occurrences of individuals being inflicted by these sudden transformations in their physique. It's getting out of control now, so much that the governing bodies that are supposed to be in charge of shutting down this experiments are all scrambling in bureaucratic bullshit. They are all too busy listening to themselves rather than pay attention to the actual people who suffers.

And I hate that I can't do much of anything about it...

I've been told earlier that the key that belonged to my Dad was supposed to open a secured box that has something essential in it to create an antidote. An antidote that will reverse all genetic tampering that's happened to every person who suffered mutation from human being to some form of animal. As it turns out, both of my parents were involved in the early days of this research, where human genomes were mixed with a certain DNA strain coming from various animal species. Mom was part of the initial team who collected samples from all over the globe and conducted the first experiments, while Dad was head of the security detail at the time. They allegedly both quit their parts when they got married and moved to Rosewood.

Or so everybody thought...

Apparently, my parents were still involved even after they moved to Rosewood. Only this time around, they're on the opposing party, aiming to put a stop to all of these violations against human nature.

"So, you were in Rosewood..." Matt spoke again, taking me out of my thoughts.

"Yes... I talked to Senator Hastings... She denied any involvement in any of Carissimi's activities despite being her most generous benefactor during the election,"

"Do you believe her?"

"... I don't know what to believe anymore," I said as I moved away to leave.
