(flashback to way back when)Alison's pov
"Alison..."
Her voice startled me but I didn't look up from the book I was reading. I kept my eyes on the pages as I felt her presence right across the desk, making herself comfortable on the chair.
I didn't dare say anything. I could feel her eyes sear in my skin staring, probably gauging my mood for that fated day. I am aware that I am very much capable of masking my true feelings, feigning an entirely different emotion. What I truly feel inside me is a total wreckage, a blender mixture of confusion, anger, jealousy, fear and tons of insecurities. But what I am actually showing Emily right now is nonchalance, as though nothing can ever tear me down and kill my buzz.
"What are you reading?" She asked, trying to make a small talk.
I flipped a page on the book I was reading, or pretended to read, and debated internally with myself whether to tell Emily or just leave things to her assumptions.
"Ali... you know you can tell me anything. I'm always on your side,"
Well, until Maya waltzed in to your life, nope... Not anymore... I thought to myself, careful not to show Emily my struggle to keep my composure in front of her. It's really getting hard to do that these days every single time she's around.
"Ali... please, tell me... If I messed up anything, just tell me how to make it up to you. You don't have to leash out on anyone else if you're mad at me for cancelling. I'm really sorry, okay... Just talk to me," Emily leaned forward as she spoke.
I always adore how she makes that puppy doe eyes every time she apologize for something or when she's asking for little favors. It's irresistible and pulling, it makes me ache to cup her face in both of my hands and kiss her. I could just feel the walls in me began to tumble down and give in to those gentle brown eyes.
Damn those brown eyes...
"Why do you have to cancel? Last time I heard you don't have swim practice til Monday... what changed?" I already had a clue why Emily would be bailing on our trip but I still asked.
The girls and I scheduled a road trip this weekend. We're supposed to go to this music festival in New Jersey and go crazy fangirling over these bands and DJs. Just us girls trying to have a blast after a stressful week of midterm exams. The five of us agreed to go until I heard from Hanna that Emily couldn't come along with us.
I wanted her to be there so much, the news of her bailing out just made me snap. I didn't mean to be rude to the girls, but my actions earlier begged to differ.

(earlier @lunch)
"Guys I'm really excited!... this really cute dj Calvin Harris is gonna be there... I can't wait for Friday!," Aria squealed over her salad. She just can't contain her enthusiasm.
"Yeah!!... me too! I can't wait to test my driving skills outside Rosewood,.... and indeed Calvin Harris is really cute," Spencer chimed in...
"Well, I haven't seen this dj you two are crazy about so..." I said, equally excited as them,"I got us some meet and greet passes!! We'll---"
