Emily's pov

Floss. I forgot the floss.

It is the most forgotten thing on my grocery list. Every time I go to some convenience store with the intention of buying some dental hygiene stuff, I always forget to buy floss.

I dropped the bag of groceries, containing kellogs, milk, apples, toothpaste, toothbrush, chap stick, moisturizer, hand sanitizer and mints into the backseat of my car. I must have forgotten something else other than floss, but I just can't pick it out of my dysfunctional brain. Maybe I'll remember later on.

That's really annoying, my forgetfulness. Well, guess that's the main perk of head trauma. At least now I get to remember stuff, unlike before where I get to constantly keep a long written list and read them repeatedly.

Oh wait!... now I remember... Its Tylenol and that prescription drug I can't pronounce. I was fumbling in my sling bag for the prescription when I suddenly bumped into someone, making me step back in a defensive stance.

"Ouch!!" The person yelped as she dropped her folders on the snow covered sidewalk.

I straightened up with the intent of helping her pick up the stuff she dropped but I got distracted by the large mass of curly bright blue hair in her head. It was like that animated princess's hair, the one with bow and arrow, only it was blue, not red.

"I, ah... I-i'm so sorry," I snapped out of my shock, and stooped down to pick up one of the office folders she dropped and dusted off the snow.

"Now it's damp...I hope the files didn't get snow in it..." She said worriedly.

I didn't say anything, just stared at her attention-grabbing blue hair. Then she turned to me smirking.

"Haven't seen so much blue in your life?" She said, tucking everything she's holding in her chest as she caught me staring.

"Uhm...oh...sorry. I don't mean to be rude. And sorry I bumped into you, causing you to drop your stuff on the snow,"

"Oh! Enough with the apologies, it's alright now," she waved off one free hand at me, smiling, "I'm Soleil, by the way... You are...?"

"Emily..." I said.

"Well, Emily... while it isn't really that nice getting bumped, it is sure nice to meet you..." She removed her leather glove in the said hand and extended it to me, I took it, too late to realize I wasn't wearing any gloves at all. "Cold hands, huh"

"Yeah sorry,...I forgot my gloves,"
I said. "Nice to meet you too, Soleil..."

We stood there a moment with our hands still clasped. It felt a bit awkwardly long so I pulled back and just smiled at her.

"I, ah...I best be off...I got stuff to buy," I excused myself, since I can't seem to find enough words to go on with a nice conversation...

"Of course, Christmas Sale and all... Actually, me too. So, see you around, Emily. Happy Holidays..."

"Happy holidays to you too, Soleil..."

I walked off on my way to the drug store. I glanced back at Soleil and saw her by her car opening its door, also looking at me. She waved and smiled before she got in. I did the same thing before I went on further my way.

It's really nice to meet new people, but from what I've learned so far, one has to be wary or cautious of strangers coming in and going to your life. One shouldn't be so trusting.

You give your trust, you have expectations. Expectations are meant to be failed, crushed. Only few are met, but most...

Wait something just crossed my mind... something about expectations...aaah!!...

That feeling when you remember something but can't point it out...like it's at the tip of your tongue...

Great Expectations!!

Hah! I remember that book! Dickens... aah... Charles! Dickens Charles! Or was it Charles Dickens...? Whatever...

Damn book just popped in my head. I should read it again to remember exactly what it meant to me...

I smiled like an idiot as I went inside the drugstore. Surprisingly, I am actually making progress here in Rosewood. Well I still haven't found it, but at least I'm remembering little things, one good way to exercise my brain.

That's progress enough, I say....
