I got a good five hours of sleep last night, before I woke up feeling utterly exhausted. I had large dark circles under my eyes and my skin was paler then usual. I groaned running a hand down my face, feeling the start of a head ache. I took a shower, trying to get myself more awake. My skin was less pale after the shower but it didn't do anything to help the dark circles.
I shoved on a pair of ripped jean shorts, a grey v-neck shirt, and a flannel around my waist. I brushed my damp hair into a high pony tail, wisps of lightly curled strands falling from the ponytail, framing my face. I brushed on some mascara, grabbed my phone and walked to the kitchen.
Elliot was still asleep upstairs, lucky guy gets to have full nights of sleep. I decided to make it up to him from last night, by making him breakfast. I made pancakes, putting them on a plate, and leaving them on the table with a glass of orange juice, and syrup. I left a sticky note next to his breakfast letting him know I wasn't going to be home for the day. I texted Jamie to meet me at the park, her response was quick, telling me she was already walking over.
Once I got to the park I saw Jamie sitting on the swings, muttering along to the music playing in her ear buds. She wore black ripped jeans, and a loose white t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up, their was a black beanie placed on her head, her chestnut hair falling down her back. Her combat boots kicked the dirt as she swing her legs.
"Hey Jamie!" I say. She jumps, whipping her head in my direction, "Sorry I didn't mean to scare you" I apologized.
"It all good" she laughed standing from the swings and walking towards me.
"Lets go" I say giving her a knowing smile, as we both start running towards the forest. We have a special tree we climb, its huge. We always climb half way up, sitting on a branch. It has a perfect view of a majority of the town, it's peaceful.
When we get to the tree we start our climb, Jamie went up first, me following closely behind. I remember when Jamie first showed me this tree, I was petrified to climb it since it was so tall. Jamie helped me get over my fear of heights and now the two of us climb it ever chance we get.
Once we made it halfway, Jamie sat on the tree branch and sighed, leaning against the tree.
"Whats wrong?" I asked sitting beside her.
"My mom, she's having a hard time again. You would think after two years she would be over the bastard, he did leave." she muttered.
I put my hand in hers, giving it a squeeze. We both looked towards the town.
"He doesn't deserve you guys. Your mother has a beautiful heart, and he didn't deserve the piece she gave him. Don't think about him, he does't deserve to be thought of" I told her.
She smiled at me.
"I wish..." I began, "I wish you had a better father, I wish my mother never died, I wish Elliot didn't hate me" I sighed, slumping back into the tree.
"Maybe in an Alternate Universe I have an amazing father!" she said with a soft smile, "Maybe I would have a sibling to make everything less lonely, although you are basically my sister, Dove. Maybe your mom never died of cancer, Maybe we would both be living happily with our happy family's. Oh! Maybe I live in a big house, not a cramped two bedroom apartment!" she laughed.
"Maybe we would wear expensive clothes, and eat expensive food! Maybe we would go to movie premieres and sit with celebrities! Maybe we would have a romantic date under the stars with the love of our lives!" I said, laughing along with her.
"Thats a lot of maybes" she said, "Hey, is it okay if I stay at your house tonight? I think my mom needs some time to herself"
"Of course! You need me, Im there" I said, giving a mock salute.
"Your such a dork" she said betweens laughs.
"Come on lets go back to my place and watch a movie, we can go see Beth tonight and help out" I told her starting to climb down the tree.
My feet hit the dirt with a thump as I hit the ground. I stepped back from the tree to give Jamie some space to get on the ground, she jumps the last foot. She turned to me with an easy grin and linked her arm with mine. The two of us made our way past the park, and in the direction to my house. We turned on our music, jumping and dancing on the pavement, singing along with the lyrics. We both laughed at our awful voices, but we didn't stop singing. My house came into view and we walked up the drive way. I unlocked the door and we stepped inside, shouting the song out now.
We danced around the living room, jumping on the coaches. When the song ended we both fell back onto the coach next to each other, laughing.
Someone cleared their throat, and it wasn't until then did I see Elliot standing in the kitchen holding a glass of water. I noticed that the breakfast I left for him was now gone, meaning he must of eaten it or he threw it out.
He set his water down and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Hey Elliot"
I looked at Jamie surprised. It seemed Elliot had the same reaction, because when I looked at him, his mouth was opened slightly and his eyes were wider then usual, he tried to keep his suprise hidden. Soon, like always, his expression changed to a blank one.
"Hi" his rough voice replied.
"Im Jamie, this Dork's best friend" she said jabbing her thumb in my direction, "We haven't properly meet but Ive herd a lot about you"
Elliot starred at her for a couple a seconds, analyzing her. He turned his gaze towards me.
"Since when did you get a best friend?" He asked, harsh as usual.
"We have been best friends for a couple years now, she's always at the house. You just never cared enough to notice" I muttered.
Maybe it was my lack of sleep that was getting to me, but I thought I saw sorrow and guilt in his eyes. He blinked and it was gone.
"Well, we are going to watch a movie." I said grabbing onto Jamie's arm and pulling her towards my room.
Once we were up the stairs and in my room, I shut my door turing towards her. I huffed walking up to her.
"Why.would.you.talk.to.him" each word I said, I would wack her in the arm.
"Ouch, Hey, hey" she said swatting my hands away, "Sorry alright, I just wanted to say hi"
"He is the devil" I said, giving her one last wack. She grumbled rubbing her arm.
"Come on, he didn't seem that bad" she said, sitting on my bed.
"Oh, but he is so much worse" I told her, laying down next to her.
She laughed, "Oh poor poor Dove" she patted my head playfully. I scowled at her.
"What movie?" I asked jumping up, I grabbed my remote and turned on Netflix.
"Ummm" she held a finger to her chin, thinking,"How about a Disney marathon?"
"Yes!" I exclaimed, excited. I flicked through the movies until we settled on Alice and Wonderland, the original.
Me and Jamie spent our afternoon watching Disney movie after Disney movie.
