Chapter 1: Truly the One

Sulpicia opened the throne room door ajar and peeked in. She sees it's Aro, the person who she's been looking for.

"Sulpicia, my love. Come here." Aro says when he realizes his mate's presence. Sulpicia walks up to Aro and places her hand inside of his.

Aro reads Sulpicia's thoughts and is surprised from what he discovered. "I don't think that will be possible."

"Why not?" Sulpicia asks. "You can do anything. You're the king of the Volturi, you're the king of all vampires. I would imagine-"

Aro interrupted her. "But a child? Adopt a child and allow her into the Volturi? It cannot be done, it's simply pathetic."

"You can find a younger girl. 12 or 13 or 14 year old and change her. He or she would be around Jane and Alec's age. Maybe she would have an ability that would help us out."

Sulpicia's last statement won over Aro and Sulpicia immediately knew she succeeded when a smile started to form on Aro's face.

"Very well, very well," he said. "I shall grant your wish, as long as the new 'child' won't be out of hand."

Sulpicia smiled and kissed Aro on the cheek before leaving the throne room in joy.

Delfina Marino walked down the streets of Volterra with the other girls in her orphanage. She was the outcast of the group. Delfina hated how self centered and obnoxious the other girls were. They always called themselves "gorgeous," which wasn't true and they would call Delfina "ugly." Oh well, Delfina thought, they were delusional and too blind to spot true beauty. They were walking towards the market to buy food and other items with the money they had. Delfina only had €11 ($13.11) which wasn't as much money the rest of the girls had. The market was about the close because the sky was getting darker and darker with each passing minute.

Once the group arrived at the market, Delfina went her own separate way and bought a few oranges, and a cheap scarf. There were warm, pretty scarves in the market too, but Delfina could never afford them. After 10 minutes, she was finished shopping and she waited in a dark, empty alley for the rest of the group.

Three figures, fully covered in black clothing entered the alley that Delfina was in. Immediately, she spotted them and rolled her eyes because they were the rich "royals" of Volterra and she was jealous of their wealth. Delfina expected them to walk past her, but they stopped in front of her.

The man in front of her pulled the black cloth over his head to reveal his flawless face. "What are you doing here in this alley, my child?" The man asked.

Delfina rolled her eyes again at the words "my child." She believed his name was something like Aro. "I am not your child and I'm just waiting for them." She pointed to the girls in her group who were giggling and spinning around in the dresses they were trying on. One of the girls, Beatrice, was trying on an elegant dress. That dress would definitely break her bank, Delfina thought.

Unexpectedly, Aro took Delfina's hand and scanned through all of her memories. He saw that Delfina was an orphan and the other orphan girls would always overshadow her and bully her. Taking a quick look at her face, he could see that Delfina looked similar to Sulpicia.

Aro had read the thoughts of many other girls he came across in the hope that she would be the one, his future daughter. No girl impressed Aro as much as Delfina had; she always stayed strong and she looked quite like Sulpicia. She was truly the one.

"Let go of me," Delfina screamed at him. Aro was only holding her hand for a few seconds. "Or else!" A small smile appeared on Aro's face because he thought it was hilarious when humans threatened him, a vampire.

Aro nodded his head at Demetri and Felix and they cornered her.

"What are you doing?" She was about to scream for the other girls, although she knew they would never help, but Aro had already bitten her shoulder.
