Delfina sat in a room with only two chairs, a desk, and a few expensive objects. These people could afford everything in the world, she thought.
Jane sat in the chair behind the desk and finally spoke. "What do you think the most important vampire law is? What do you think this law is if you can be killed if you break it?"
Silence overtook the room once again as Delfina tried to figure out the answer. "Keep your existence a secret?"
"Yes. Now, the other laws are-"
"But why do we have to keep it a secret?" Delfina interrupted.
Jane just stared at her and continued with what she was saying.
"You must not bring any attention to your hunt and you must dispose of their bodies," she places her hands on the table, stands up, and leans toward Delfina making complete eye contact with her. "This one doesn't apply to us, but you must move every few years due to humans and their suspicions."
"Immortal children are not-" Delfina raised her hand as though she was in school.
Jane stopped. "What?"
"I asked you before. Why do we have to keep our existence a secret?"
"Humans would fear us if they knew what we are. It's not like I don't mind fearful humans, but they would try to do everything in their power to kill us although that's impossible. You wouldn't want the whole world chasing us, would you?" Delfina shook her head. She imagined humans running around chasing her with a pitchfork.
"Good, because it would become bothersome over time," Jane continued. "Like I was saying, immortal children are not to be created. They can't control themselves and they wouldn't be able to keep their existence a secret. Vampires can't age and they'll cease at that age for the rest existence. If this rule is broken, the child and their creator will be destroyed."
Suddenly, the door flew open and in came Alec. Both Jane and Delfina looked the way of the door.
"Hi, sorry. I guess I'm late?"
Jane stared at him as to ask, "What do you think?"
"Umm okay, what laws have you gone over already?"
"Secrecy, hunting and moving, and immortal children." Delfina replied to Alec's question.
"The next law is dealing with Children of the Moon is prohibited, except for extermination," Alec said and Delfina opened her mouth, but Alec already knew what she was going to ask. "They're similar to werewolves."
"Werewolves exist?"
"Those myths you read as a child aren't actually myths, just so you know."
Jane intervened. "False witness is punishable by death, no matter if it was an accident or intentional."
Alec and Jane continued to teach Delfina the laws, with Delfina asking an occasional question. As usual, Jane was annoyed when Delfina interrupted her, but Alec found it amusing.
"This isn't a law, but we should mention to you that vampires have special abilities, they're like powers."
"Powers?" Delfina asked with amazement. "Woah, that's something I wouldn't imagine vampires would have. Do you two have any? Do I have any?"
"Jane and I have special abilities, but we think we shouldn't show them to you."
"Why not?"
"Because it could harm you and you're our king's daughter. We aren't allowed to harm you."
