~*KATHERINE, LOCATION, UNKNOWN, TIME, UNKNOWN*~

"Kat! Its time to wake up honey!" My mom calls from outside my bedroom door, I lift myself up and slide off my bed falling to my floor giving a low growl of annoyance, my mom opens my door her blonde hair seems to glow with the help of a beam of sunlight across her face, "Come on Kat, did you forget what today is?" I open my eyes slowly, blinking a few times as her words processed in my tired mind. I jump up to my feet quickly,

"Its my 18th birthday!" I say excitedly, "Dad said he would be here, that he wouldn't miss it!" Mom walks in and hugs me,

"He'll be here Kat, just give him a little more time." She lets go and steps back, "I've begun making breakfast so go get cleaned up and come to the kitchen." I pat my face and shake my head, fighting tears from all the times I've heard that before,

"He'll be here this time. I just know it!" I go to my dresser and pick out some clothes for the day, a short sleeved blue and white stripped shirt, and blue jeans with white shoes.

"But he's missed all the others Why would this one be any different?" A different voice spoke through me.

I shake my head, "He just will! He promised he would..." I sigh, "I'm going to enjoy this day regardless of what you think." I lay my outfit of choice on my bed and go to shower, on my way to the bathroom the smell of fried eggs and bacon pulled me towards the kitchen but I resist temptation and go and wash up. Afterwhich I return to my room and put on my clothes.

"Katherine! Your breakfast is ready!" Mom calls from the kitchen, I lift up my right hand slowly and bring up a portal to my kitchen, as mom sets the table. I go over to the plates of food and sneakily eat a few fries, or so I thought, as I went to munch on a hand full of fries they disappear from my hand as does the remaining food. I sigh disappointed that I couldn't get away with a successful sneak, "I had a feeling you'd try something so I decided to play you the fool." She chuckles, "Come, everything is already laid out for us, I'll get your coffee made in a jiff." I went and took my seat, I help myself to the meal that rests before me, fried eggs, pancakes, bacon, and of course the aforementioned fries, steak fries. My mouth waters in anticipation, Mom takes her seat after placing my cup of coffee next to me, "Well go on then, you can't eat by just looking at the food." I give myself three eggs and pancakes, a mini mountain of bacon, and an absurd amount of fries. I devour my breakfast with a smile and the occasional sip of coffee during those slight moments of catching my breath. I place my fork down on my empty plate, my pale blue eyes met my mothers amber ones,

"Mom?" She wipes the right side of her mouth,

"Yes dear?" I twirl my fork in my right hand slowly,

"How.... how is Dad doing?" Her eyes slumped downwards,

"Well... He, uh, he's..." I shake my head as she fails to answer,

"Never mind..." She holds a look of hurt, "It's all right mom, I kinda knew you didn't have an answer." I sigh after taking a long sip of coffee, "I just miss him that's all... I wanted to have at least one breakfast with him, one that I can remember." My hands shake softly, "Can you tell me something about him? Anything at all?" I get up and grab her hands, "Please! Something! Anything!" She looks away from me, "And don't tell me he loves me, I don't want to hear that! How can he love someone he barely knows! Why is he never here? Why is it always just the two of us! What gives him the right to leave us alone for this long! Just tell me something so I can know him more than what my mind makes up!" My tone was rage but my eyes screamed sorrow as tears fell, my body flowed with rage and sorrow, on the outside a low flame spun around me as snowflakes entwined with them, "Please, just tell me something...."
