Depression isn't a poem
It's not a metaphor
It's whoever you are
I mean, whoever you
Were before
It's like that person
But not them anymore
Depression isn't words
Made up to make it sound
More beautiful
It's eating even when
You're full
It's not eating even when
You don't remember
What being full feels like
Depression isn't a cliché
It's not a fairy tale
Where a prince saves
The day
A tower and a magic spell
Can disappear
But depression
Doesn't go away
Depression isn't drowning
It's diving into an
Empty pool head first
And wondering what
Happened to your face
The next morning
Because you don't
Remember swimming
How can you drown
Without any water
Depression is standing
In an empty pool
And wishing it was
The ocean
So it could swallow you
Take you across the world
And spit you out again
Or maybe just keep you
Depression isn't a story
That you want to be told
Its not the part of you
You'd want someone
To hold
Because you're scared
That if they touch you
You'll start to unfold
And you're trying to
Tell yourself
That you're stronger
Than that
Depression isn't the mirror
It's not the eyes that look
Back at you
The mirror is innocent
It shows the best parts
Of you
It's your conscious
That makes the insecurities
Stick like glue
Depression isn't hiding
It's wanting to be found
Its not being silent
It's making a lot of noise
It's the loneliness
That keeps you on
The ground
Depression isn't pills
It's not the one that
Wants to kill
That voice you hear
Saying you're not enough
It isn't depression
It's yourself
