You smelled like
Cigarettes
And when I hugged you
I could smell beer
On your breath
But I always felt safe
In your arms
And even when
I didn't see you
It never felt like we were apart
It never felt like
Id wake up one day
And feel this ache
In my heart
From the loss of a soul
Who never knew
What it was like to be old
Because your spirit
Still danced
When your feet
Couldn't carry you
And your laugh
Still rung out
Like a merry tune
And you are my hero
Because you had a love
In your chest
That made the world
A little better
I'd give anything
To hug you one last time
Because I've never felt
A pain worse
Then not getting a goodbye
