HEY GUYS! So it's been literally like...two years (I am so very sorry) but I'm BACK for another imagine, since I didn't want to leave you hanging THAT long, hahaa.  Anyways I've most definitely changed a hell of a lot, including my taste in music (gasp) and quite possibly the way that I write, since I'm a far happier person than I was back when I wrote the other ones.  So, enough blabbering on, onto the imagine! (also this is in first person instead of second person)

Song: Don't Stop Me Now by Queen

So, I'm normally one that LOVES some competition.  Especially when it comes to how well I can play my instrument.  Last year, I got first chair in the top class band as a sophomore, and now as a fresh junior, I am ready to dominate the incoming freshmen once more.

However, I spot a new senior.  This isn't normal, since normally there aren't more seniors joining band?  It's normally the other way around?  I do some investigation and ask around to see if anybody knows him.  I ask my best friend, who is also my flute buddy, Madeline.

"Maddie, who's that?"  I ask, pointing to the new flute player sitting toward last chair.

"I heard his name is Dan?  I may be wrong though.  You're social, you should ask him!"  Maddie replies, nudging me to go toward him.

I sigh, but I go and socialize with the newbie.

"Hello!  I'm Y/N and I'd like to welcome you to our fantastic band!  We may be small, but we are mighty!"  I say as I quote what my band director normally says at least once a week (I'm not kidding).

"Ah, hello!  I'm Daniel Howell, and you can call me Dan if you like but I don't really mind.  And, if you can't already tell, yes I am from the UK so if you want me to pronounce anything and make fun of me for it nows your chance,"  Dan says with sarcasm filling his voice.

"Can you say, 'Y/N is the best and I think she will get first chair again this year'?" I say, giggling a bit at the end.

"Ahh, I see you're a competitive one.  As am I," Dan says with a smirk.

Oh fuck.  Yep, definitely have some competition.

"I'm sure you're not THAT good," I say sarcastically, waving my piccolo around.

Dan picks up his neatly polished flute, which probably just came out of the shop because of how clean it looks.  He warms up, and I notice his amazingly beautiful tone.  Not that mine's worse than his, I'm just admiring his tone, that's all.

"Can you give me a piece to sight read?" he asks, pulling up a stand in front of him.

"Sure, let me find one," I say as I rummage through my folder.  I smirk at this song we played my freshman year.  It's one that took the flutes forever to play note-perfect.  I pull it out and set it on his stand.

Dan's eyes grow wide as he looks at the music. "Ocean Ridge Rhapsody?  Okay, I'll take a shot at this," he says with less confidence.

I chuckle a bit, doubting his skills.

He starts playing it, and I am genuinely shocked.  He's playing it near perfect. I'm actually shocked, I wasn't expecting him to be this good!  He gets up to a long series of rests, where I tell him to stop.

"Yeah, that was really good.  You were under tempo though," I say, teasing him.

He rolls his eyes, "Hey, not a bad job for sight reading though!" he says, giving me a wink.

I externally blush.  Wait, me?  Blushing?  Dear God, am I actually developing a crush on this idiot, only knowing him for 20 minutes?

I smile at him and go back to my seat, trying to fan myself to stop blushing.

"Oh my god, you're totally blushing!" Maddie shouts.

"Maddie, Maddie!  Shut up!" I shout right back, planting my face right onto the stand.  This guy is seriously really attractive though...like he's a mixture of adorable, kinda nerdy, and funny.  That's my type, he's my type, and I just hope I'm his type.

"Okay guys, since today is just our first day, we won't be doing anything, but tomorrow I expect all of you to be prepared to learn some new drill, because we have a football game to play at next Friday!  And remember, good, better, best.  Never let it rest, until your good is better, and your better is best!" my band director announces, with a big smile at the end before getting off of his podium.

"Y/N!" Dan shouts from across the section.

I go over to him, sitting in the empty seat next to him.

"So, do you normally blush that badly in front of everybody?" he asks with a little smirk playing on his stupid smile.

I blush even more, rolling my eyes at him.  "Hahaa, no," I say, unconvincingly.

He grasps my hand, my mind going crazy, and heart racing.  What is this boy doing??  I look at him, yet he's already looking at me, smiling.

"I can already tell you're a special part of my last year of high school, Y/N," Dan says as he squeezes my hand right as the bell rings, grabs his stuff, and gets up.  Before he leaves, he turns around and blows me a little kiss, and I roll my eyes and catch it ironically.  He chuckles, then walks out of the band room.

Who knows what the rest of the year has in store.
