Alex And Meredith

Chapter 10

Everyone around the Hospital has been very tense, ever since Derek's outburst everyone has been worried about what will happen.  Addison has Odessa full time, and Meredith has become very close with Addison.

Addison and Meredith are currently at Addison's small apartment, both of them holding wine glasses and talking about their shitty childhoods.

"I mean, I never was abused, but like you know when your parents don't like you." Addison said as she laughed and Meredith laughed with her.

"You know I never thought we would be this close."

"Neither did I, I mean everyone in the hospital knew that Derek lusted after you, and we knew you and Alex are like soul mates so it made me hate you."

"Why would you hate me?"

"Because I love, loved, Derek and he still wanted you even though you showed zero interest in him."

"Yeah, well, I never asked or wanted it... why did you love him so much?"

"Because he was the man of my dreams, he had the stunning looks, the handsome smile. And he was so good, so utterly good at being a father and he used to love me so much. He wasn't always like this, something happened to his sister awhile ago and he went to visit her, and after that something had rotted inside him and he was never the same." Addison choked out the last part, as she remembered Derek's sister and her best friend. She wish she could call Amelia and cry with her about all of what happened, but you can't call the dead.

"What happened when Derek went to see his sister?"

"She, she had a horrible horrible drug problem, her husband and her baby died. Her husband of over dose and her baby because he had no brain, she was sent into a rehab hospital... and one day she lost it, the withdrawals where actually killing her mentally and physically. She took her life inside the hospital a day after Derek went to see her, it rocked him so deep that he changed. And even though she was my best friend, I had to be the strong one for him, even though I had delivered her baby and helped Amelia cope with the lost because Derek was here, I had to be the strong one for everyone." Tears now slid down Addison's face, and Meredith opened her mouth to comfort her but Addison continued, "Do not take what you and Alex have for granted, a love like that is a once in a lifetime love. If you ever have babies, don't take one moment with them for granted." Her voice cracked as she looked around the room with all of her pictures with Odessa.

"I am so, very sorry. I could never imagine that kind of loss. I know we haven't known each other long but if you ever need anything you are more than welcome to come to my house with Odessa and talk."  Meredith gave her a half smile, knowing the offer wasn't much, but she wanted Addison to know she was there for her, and frankly Meredith needed someone herself.

"Thank you." Addison smiled with tears still streaming down her face and reached for Meredith's hand in a silent way to say what her thank you couldn't.
