How could this happen?
How long had Wes been with Smosh Games?
Why did they fire him?
What did he deserve that?
What did he do?
It only took a few minutes for the news to get to the Squad. They were all shocked, confused.
Courtney shot out of her seat.
"Joe, what the-"
"It's not me," he said helplessly, "I did everything I could, but-"
She pushed past him and ran. She ran to the Smosh Games office.
Wes was putting his things into a cardboard box. The others were standing around the room, unsure of what to do or how to act.
Courtney grabbed Matt Raub and pulled him out of the room.
"Why?!"
"I don't know! This came from all the way up, Courtney. Joe and I did all that we could."
She exhaled angrily before reentering the room. She ignored everyone and walked up to Wes. She gently rested her hand on his shoulder.
"Wes?"
He shook his head, not even looking at her.
"Let's go home, ok? I'll drive."
He nodded, picking up the box and turning around.
"I'll see you guys later," he whispered.
Mari quickly wrapped him in a hug, "We can fight this."
"Don't," he whispered.
Courtney took his hand and lead him out of the room, to the elevator, and to parking garage.
He didn't speak the whole way home, but just stared at his lap and occasionally sniffed.
It wasn't until Courtney shut the front door that Wes dropped the box, fell to his knees, and cried.
Courtney knelt next to him and wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders, holding onto him as tightly as she could.
"What am I gonna do, Courtney? What did I do?"
"Shh," Courtney brushed his hair from his face, "Don't worry about that right now, ok?"
"Then what should I do."
Courtney sighed, "You're gonna pick yourself up. You're gonna take a shower, drink some water, and we'll watch tv. We can worry about that other stuff later."
He nodded, "Take my phone...I don't really want to talk to any of them right now." He placed the device in Courtney's hand before standing and helping her off the floor, "Thank you."
She smiled and patted his shoulder, "You don't need to thank me. Just take a shower; it'll help you feel better."
Later that evening, they sat on the couch together in pajamas, watched anime, and ate all the cookies they could manage.
They both feel asleep on the couch. Wes had his head in Courtney's lap, who had already called off work for the next day.
He woke up around midnight. He slowly sat up, careful not to wake up his roommate.
They had the world's most uncomfortable couch, so he knew if she slept there she would be sore the next day. He carefully lifted Courtney into his arms and carried her to her room, and gently laid her on the bed.
"You can stay," she murmured as he turned to leave.
He climbed her next to her. Pressing his chest into her back and draping an arm over her.
They were facing each other when they woke up.
"Good morning," Wes muttered.
"Your breath stinks," Courtney whispered back.
"So does yours."
She sighed happily, "Do you want to get pancakes?"
"Yes, please."
Courtney sat up, "Lets get changed then," she patted his leg as she should, "Get up, sleepyhead!"
Wes gently grabbed her arm, "Courtney, thank you."
"You don't need to-"
"Yes, I do. Thank you, Courtney, thank you so much."
"...You're very welcome."
Wes sat up and kissed Courtney's forehead.
They didn't know that the next day, Wes would be rehired into Smosh Games. It all turned out to be a 'terrible HR mistake'.
Mari throw a party for him because they were all so happy.
Wes was happy for a different reason. He was happy to know he had a friend as good as Courtney Ruth Miller, who would stand by his side no matter what.Sorry about the cheesiness haha. Please leave any suggestions! Thanks for reading!
