Featuring protective Archie 💁♂️
.•.•.•.•.•.•.•.Thud, thud, thud.
The rhythmic footfalls of the heavy boots downstairs stir Jughead in his sleep, for a split second, he thinks he's dreaming. He frowns, sitting up in bed, tugging the covers from his boyfriend Archie, who's laying in bed beside him- and he groans- sensing the cold air of their bedroom hitting his bare chest. Jughead gulps, his ears perking at the sound of boots on the wooden flooring downstairs, it's nighttime, no ones in the house. A cold shiver runs down his spine, and the temperature in the bedroom isn't even that chilled.
"Archie!" Jughead whispers, not quietly however, his tone in harsh and riddled with fear. Archie does nothing but shift in the bed, groaning and rolling over. "Archie! Wake up!"
"Hmph," Archie grumbles in to the pillow, and rubs an eye with his fist. "What? What's happened?"
"Arch, please, there's someone downstairs!" Jughead taps him once more and this time Archie sits up, frowning at Jughead, who looks wide eyed with panic.
"What?" Archie questions, his voice thick with sleep.
"Listen!" Jughead tells him and the room goes silent, the only sounds that of their breaths, Jughead's especially as his is lauboured, and the boots pressing to the floor downstairs. Archie's breath hitches in his throat and he turn to Jughead, standing up from the bed- and only in his boxers he wraps Jughead's dressing gown around himself.
"You stay here," Archie tells him, pursing his lips as he glances at the door, knowing there was someone in their house sits uncomfortably in both their stomachs. "Don't you dare move Jug, sit here- okay?"
"Archie," Jughead whispers, reaching out to grab Archie's hand and stop him from leaving. "Please don't, just call the police."
"What? and stay sat in here waiting for whoever this fucker is downstairs to come up? And what- kill us?" Archie growls, his only concern protecting Jughead - if anything happened to his boy he'd never forgive himself.
"I love you Arch," Jughead whimpers and Archie smiles, a small spread of the lips but it reassures Jughead nonetheless. In seconds Archie bends down and places his lips on Jughead's.
"I love you too, baby, so please stay here."

Archie advances the stairs with a bat in one hand that trembles a bit too much for his liking. The lights are off- and it's dark and eerily quiet in the house. Archie can't see anything for the thick black air, he can hear his own breath and the steady trud of boots pacing in his kitchen. He's terrified, he's never had to face anything like this in his life before. He rolls his eyes when he can feel Jughead behind him on the stairs, one of his hands slipping into Archie's.
"I can't let you do this alone, I'm sorry," Jughead mumbles, in a tiny voice, and there isn't much apology in his tone.
Archie squeezes his hand, making it down to the bottom of the steps, both Archie and Jughead's feet meet the living room floor and their fear rises, almost wrapping around their limbs.
"Just stay behind me," Archie tells him and Jughead nods. Archie slides the bat up and down in his hand, tightening and unclenching his grip on the slim wood.
"I've called the police," Jughead whispers, and Archie has to strain to hear him. Archie gives his hand a small squeeze.
Then from behind him Archie can feel something heavy whack against his head, and pain spreads through his body, Jughead yelps, shouting Archie's name as he falls to the ground.
"Archie!" Jughead cries, dropping to his knees and cradling Archie in his lap- who groans in pain. He glances up to the shadow stood above him, the body of a man just barley recognisable. "What do you want? Please just take what you want and go."
The man all dressed in black, bends down, squatting to his knees- his piercing brown eyes bore into Archie's, observing him as he tugs Archie from his lap- Jughead panics instantly, desperately scrambling to grab onto Archie.
"No, no please!" Archie pleads, his heart aching at the sound of Archie's pained groans. "Don't! Please not him- Archie!"
Then Archie's on the other side of the room after the intruder throws him there, Jughead's on his feet in an instant- but he's unable to move as arms wrap around him. He wonders briefly where the heck the police are. From the corner of his eye Jughead spots Archie attempting to stand up, and, soon he wobbles on his feet and stumbles over to him and the man pressed against his chest.
"Stay where you are!" The first time the man speaks both Archie and Jughead jump at his deep voice. He's directing his stare towards Archie, who only wants to pull his boyfriend from his grip. "Don't you take another step."
"Just take what you want and go," Archie tells the man; in a voice he hopes portrays authority and confidence, despite not feeling it inside. He's terrified and wants this man to leave them alone, Jughead's looking at him with wide eyes and he can see the fear swimming in them, he just wants to hug him.
"What if he's what I want?" The man sneers and Jughead freezes in his arms and Archie frown deepens and he's growing angry.
"Don't you dare," he warns, voice low and threatening, the man all dressed in black seems surprised at the reaction, but Archie isn't sure what he expects- it's not like he's just going to roll over and allow this man to steal his boyfriend. "If it's money you want you can have it,"
The man before Archie stands straighter and he knows he's got him, he's after money and Archie has a few savings put back he can give him- he'd give away all his money for Jughead- you can't buy love after all. Archie tells the man to stay put while he wonders away, constantly glancing over his shoulder to shoot Jughead reassuring looks, to fetch the money. When he returns Jughead is no longer in the mans arms, but there's a gloved hand on his forearm- holding him in place beside the man. Archie hands the money over, his hand shaking, and he breaths a sigh of relief when the man smirks and rushes from the house, quicker than he came. And the ordeal last only minutes but felt like a lifetime for Jughead. The moment he's gone Archie instantly races over to Jughead's shivering form and brings him in his arms , Jughead snuggles into his neck and has a tight grip around him. Archie runs his hand through Jughead's thick hair, shushing him gently.
"It's okay, babe, you're okay." He reassures him and Jughead sniffles, he can feel his boyfriend trembling in his arms and he's angry and sad about that.
"I've got you," he whispers once more, his voice staying quite as to not frighten poor Jughead any further. "I've always got you."
Archie has to make Jughead several cups of steaming hot chocolate the rest of that night and hold him even closer as they slept. And with time Jughead was able to move on with his gentle boyfriend by his side.
