"Alright! This party is trippin', y'all!" Princess Pony Head was in the center of the dance floor, whipping her head all around, tossing her hot pink mane wildly. The big Marco-Butterfly graduation party was in full swing. All of their old friends were in attendance, from school chums to old pals from other dimensions.
Star skipped around the Diaz living room, greeting each and every one of the guests with a friendly smile and a squeal of delight. She spotted Janna standing near the buffet table, trying to spike the punch, and quickly ran over to say hello to her friend and thank her for coming.
"Janna!" At the sound of her name, addressed prankster quickly hid the bottle of heavy beer that she had stolen from her dad's liquor cabinet in her satchel. "Star! Hey!" They shared a tight hug. "Hey, have you seen Marco around?", Star asked her, scanning the room around them. "Well, last time I checked, he and Jackie were heading to the kitchen." "Thanks!", Star called out over her shoulder, heading towards the kitchen.
Once there, she found Marco and Jackie, laughing as they launched cheesy nachos into each other's mouths. They looked so happy together, and it would be a lie if Star said she wasn't jealous. She didn't want to barge in on their moment, but this was crucial. Getting up her nerve, she walked into the kitchen and up to Marco, tapping him meekly on his shoulder.
His head turned so that they were eye to eye. "What is it, Star?", he asked. She took a breath of courage. "Marco? Can I talk to you?" Her eyes darted back and forth between him and Jackie. "Alone?" "Uh, can't it wait, Star?", Marco said. "I'm kinda in the middle of somethin'." "I only need a few minutes. Please?" Star's eyes went wide and glossy, and her lips curled into the sweetest smile. Marco grimaced. She knew he couldn't resist her when she made that face.
"Its cool, Marco.", Jackie said, fiddling with her necklace. "I'll be waiting here when you get back." Marco sighed. "Okay. We can talk." Star took him by the hand and led him to his bedroom, where she then shut the door behind them so that no one would overhear their personal conversation. They sat on the edge of Marco's bed and just stayed like that for a moment or two in perfect silence.
Marco coughed. "So...", he trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "What did you pull me in here for?" Star stared at her lap, too nervous to look him in the eye. "Can I ask you something, Marco? Its super SUPER important!" Marco nodded slowly. "Of course." He smiled softly. "Star, I'm your friend. You can tell me anything. I'm all ears." Seeing that smile made Star lose all the feeling in her legs, but she ignored it and continued.
"Marco...how would you feel if I left?" His eyes went wide. "What?" "I mean, hypothetical question,", Star explained. "What if something came up on Mewni, that made it so that I had to leave Earth forever? I'm talking no visits, no vacations, no phone calls, no anything. You and I would never see each other again." She looked at him with sad eyes. "How would you feel?"
Marco was unresponsive for a few beats. To Star, the pause felt as if it lasted an eternity. His big beautiful brown eyes cast themselves downward as he compensated her words. "I...I don't know." Her heart broke a tiny bit. He didn't know how he'd feel if she left? Did she really mean that little to him? "What do you mean?"
"I mean...I can't figure how I'd feel because...because I could never even imagine you leaving." That response made her freeze as he smirked. "You've been in my life for so long, Star, you've become a permanent part of it.", Marco said slowly. "You've had such an influence on me, that I can't picture even one day without you. In fact, I consider you...a part of me."
Star scooted closer to him, her gaze locked with his. "Marco...do you really feel that way?" He stared into her lovely crystal-blue hues, an uneasy feeling developing in the pit of his stomach. "Star...what is it? Why are you asking all this stuff? Is something wrong? Did something happen on Mewni?"
