"Its the only way, Your Majesty." Queen Moon Butterfly, known by her people as "Moon the Undaunted", felt her heart sink. The citizens of Mewni had, for many years, longed for peace between themselves and the monsters that roamed the dark forests. She had spent years trying to find a way to put a stop to the series of wars that kept starting. Now, at last, there was a solid way to end it all. But now, Moon wished that it had never been figured out.

"Are you certain that there's nothing else we can do?", she asked her High Chancellor. The elderly man shook his head sadly, his pale eyes cast downwards. "Its either this, or continue the war." The rest of the Council exchanged sad looks. They knew that the Queen hated the idea of doing such a thing to Princess Star. To Moon, nothing was more precious to her than her daughter.

King River, Moon's beloved husband and the father of her dear child, took his sweet wife's gloved hand and gently stroked it with his calloused but loving fingers. "There, there, Moon Pie,", he said, using his cute nickname for her. "Maybe it won't be so bad. Maybe Star will like him." Moon wiped her teary eyes, smearing her carefully-applied makeup. "Have you forgotten who he's related to?" River shrunk away, ashamed of himself for not thinking it through.

"Well? What shall it be, Your Majesties?" Moon and River looked at one another, thinking very hard. As much as Mewni needed this treaty, they would never forgive themselves if they were responsible for their daughter's eternal unhappiness. They looked into each other's eyes, and, as all couples who share a love so deep and true do, they read each other's minds. They knew what the answer was.

Queen Moon looked back at her High Chancellor, took a deep breath, and spoke in a firm, clear voice. "We shall let Star decide."

I came up with this idea after the Battle for Mewni special.  Thus, nothing from after those episodes applies to this particular story.  I hope you'll enjoy it anyway.  I do not own Disney.
