Star finished hanging the streamers in the kitchen. In just a couple of hours, it would be time to start the big Diaz-Butterfly Graduation Party. All of their friends were coming to say farewell. Star only wished she knew what kind of farewell they would have to give her.
The past two weeks had gone by in a blur, and now, here it was...the final day for her to make a decision. She had been pacing back and forth in her bedroom, wracking her brain over which option she should choose. While she knew that marriage was probably the best for Mewni and the monsters...she couldn't stand the thought of leaving Marco forever.
As she got down from the stepladder, she looked over her shoulder at Marco, working his magic in the kitchen. He was totally in the zone, making extra-special nachos for the party, complete with red pepper flakes and five different types of cheese dips. It was taking him longer than it would have if he was making regular nachos, but it would be worth it. The party guests were sure to love them.
Star knew that if she married the son of Toffee, she would probably never return to Earth. After the wedding, Coffee would take her to live with him in his own castle, deep in the heart of the Forest of Certain Death, many, many miles from the Mewnian Royal Palace. It was unlikely that he would ever let her visit. She may never see Marco again.
Star could not imagine the rest of her life without Marco or any of her other Earth friends for that matter. But she could not make the decision alone. She knew that now. Tonight, at the party, she would tell Marco everything. And she would ask him what to do.

Marco popped the bowl of nachos into the microwave and punched in the timer. As the countdown began, he turned back just in time to see Star staring at him. As soon as their eyes met, she let out a tiny little "eek!", and quickly turned back around. Marco smirked for a moment at her quirkiness, but that smirk quickly faced.
Marco wished that he knew what had been going on with Star lately. She had been acting so strangely lately. Of course, she always acted strange, but in a good way. It was one of the many things everyone loved about her. But this wasn't the trademark "Star Butterfly" kind of strange that people admired. This was a different kind of strange...a strange that made Marco uneasy.
She had become very clingy to her friends, especially to Marco and Jackie. She tagged along on all their dates, and even though they said they didn't mind, they secretly wished she could give them just one minute alone. Having Star as the third wheel sucked out any romance from their outings. They even felt awkward kissing when Star was sitting right next to them, watching like a hawk.
Not only did she insist on making their twosome a threesome, she was constantly interrupting Marco's phone calls with Jackie, instead making him hang up the phone to do something with her, like watch a movie or dance to the best hits of Love Sentence. Marco and Jackie hadn't had a private moment between each other since graduation day.
While Marco was very close to Star, and cared deeply for her, he only wished that she would stop trying to horn in on his and Jackie's relationship. He loved Star, and he knew she would never try to do so intentionally, but he was afraid that she would accidentally ruin things between him and his girlfriend.
Today was their last day in Echo Creek before college, and Marco wanted to spend as much time as he could tonight with Jackie before he left. Then, it would be just him and Star for a while. And Marco was okay with that. He just wanted one last night with his girlfriend.
Ding! The microwave timer went off, and Marco spun back around to take it out. It would be alright. It was only one night. Surely, Star would understand why he needed to spend all his time with Jackie. She was sympathetic like that. After all, they were going to college together. After tonight, they would have all the time in the world to be best friends.
