Days passed as Jack started mentoring Elsa on how to control and improve her powers. They practiced up in the highest tower of her ice palace, where they were far and high enough for no one to disturb them.

"Come on, you're doing it! Great work, see?" Jack exclaimed, clapping as Elsa produced a fragile single snowflake by opening her palm. It twirled in the cold air, light blue mist coming off it. Elsa giggled, and the snowflake trembled, threatening to crack.

"Oh no! Jack, help!" she exclaimed, not daring to move in case the snowflake would break if she did. Jack just chuckled and put his finger through the snowflake, making it dissipate. "Don't get too attached to this, Elsa. It's only a single snowflake; no big deal."

"Yeah, I guess," Elsa said in embarrassment. "When will you teach me something that I can use to protect myself?"

"As long as I'm here, you won't need to protect yourself. That job is already filled," he replied, giving her a reassuring smile.

"But-but what if the Prince and his soldiers return?" she asked anxiously, glancing out the open balcony window.

"Then you'll know that someone is here--always here--to back you up," Jack said comfortingly, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. As ironic as it may seem, the cold touch warmed Elsa to the core and made her feel relaxed. "Thanks, Jack."

Back at Arendale, Anna was in the arms of Kristoff, who was riding horseback to the royal palace. She was shriveled up and blue, like she'd caught a bad case of leukemia.

"Don't worry, Anna. The Prince will kiss you and everything will be alright," Kristoff whispered as they reached the royal gates. Upon seeing the princess in her distressed state, the soldiers parted and made way for them to go on.

Slowly and carefully, he lowered Anna onto the ground in the care of Olaf. The snowman looked up at Kristoff in confusion. "Hey, aren't you going to come with us?"

"I... I have to continue working," Kristoff answered lamely. But in truth, all he wanted was to not watch the girl he'd grown to like kiss someone else.

"Sure," Olaf said slowly, and then turned to Anna. "Come on, Anna. Let's get you to the Prince."
