We Six

Test 3

After she says that the light in my room turns blue, a very beautiful royal Blue like the color of the sea. First thing I do after the doors closed was examined the room I was in. The room was a small space, flat ceiling, four white wall with a tint of blue from the lights, no windows, and a door. The door was very interesting it had three rows of three circles letting me see into the hallway and the room across from mine. The room was completely empty with a tall stand about four feet tall with a box that gave it an extra foot. The box was completely glass with a flower, rocks, and soil inside. Confused on what we have to do I hear a sound coming from person across the hall from me. It was a very annoying noise like the one you would use to get someone's attention so you could tell them a secret. I walk over to the door and look through the little circles. Across the hall is a boy doing the exact same thing that I was looking through the circles trying to get my attention. I look at him and say "hello?" He instantly shoot back at me with a "hey" I look at him confused then ask without trying to be rude "What do you want?" He realizes I wasn't trying to be rude so without yelling at me he says "I just wanted to say hi" "okay?" I say like I don't care because I really didn't "What's your name?" He's says like he's genuinely interested "Connor" I say. "That's a great name" he says "thanks. What's yours?" "Matthew" he says. Before I could give a response a man in a completely white suit walks in front of my door, if it weren't for his skin being tan he would have blended into the background of the completely white hallway. He stands there for a minute then begins to speak. "This test is all about how well you can manage while under bad circumstances. You will have three days to keep that flower alive" he points to the flower in the box, I look back realizing there's no water or sunlight in sight. "Now you will notice there is no water or sunlight, you will have to figure out a way to keep it alive. Think outside of the box. A care taker will come by everyday with an item to help you think. There are no rules do whatever it takes to keep that flower alive. If you succeed you will be apart of the group. Good luck." He finishes his obviously scripted instructions and moves to the next door. Now with a clear view of Matthew again I realized I missed him for that period that I couldn't see him, I thought to myself "that's crazy you've known him for literally five minutes are you crazy." He looks at me and says "this test is crazy, how are we going to do this?" He's trying to act cool but I can tell he has worry in his eyes. I look at him and say "I really don't know" with sincerity in my voice so he knows I can tell he's scared. He turns around and walks to his flower and starts thinking about what he should do I think to myself "I should do the same but I can't stop staring." The way he talked to my was so confusing it was very nice and being me someone being nice to me wasn't normal. I thought I was concentrating on him but looking through his window I caught myself look at the flower in his box, it was stunning the white rose turned a peechy flesh like color was absolutely gorgeous, breathtaking. Later that day while I sat up against the back wall of the room still trying to figure out how to do this a man walks in front of my door, he wasn't the same man as before but he was wearing the exact same white suit as the other man. I walk up to him and say "I take it your the care taker." He said nothing just stared at me with dead eyes like the body guards in London do. He opens up a little latch below the circles on the door. He slides in a little silver dish in it and on the dish was an old type of hand watch that was really rusty. I look up and say "What am I supposed to do with this?" Again he just sits there and stares at me. I slide the silver dish back through the latch to him. He takes it and closes the latch and moves on to the next room. Again I look across the hall to Matthew, he's sitting there with a book with a scarlet cover and has no words on the pages. He looks to me and says "this is useless, what are we supposed to do with these. They don't help us at all" I just look at him. After our talk the lights start to dim I guess symbolizing the end of the day. Matthew looks at me and says "Guess that means to sleep. This sucks first they give us an impossible task then a useless item to not help at all with that impossible task then expect us to sleep on the floor with no pillow or blanket. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?..... But at least they put me across from somebody whose cute." He says in a flirtatious way smirks then walks away to go to sleep. I sit there stunned unaware of what just happened then realized he was hitting on me, I smile then walk away from the door and go sit down where I was once before up against the back wall, still smiling thinking about him his dark brown hair brown eyes and his smile. After that my thoughts turn horrid I start thinking about all the ones before how they left me, how he was going to do the same, how it was a like he's lying you're fat you're ugly he doesn't like you he's just saying that don't think differently. My thoughts take over my whole body and I can't move, it's hard to breathe but luckily this is normal for me so I just close my eyes and think about him. After a while I fall asleep without even realizing it. The second day comes so fast, I'm awaken by an earsplitting noise along the p.a system. I wake up with a jump by being scared. I get up and plug my ears. They play it three times then it shuts off after they were sure everyone was awake. I rush to the door to so Matthew, he's there waiting for me. He looks up from twittling his thumbs and says "took you long enough sleepy head." I smile and actually feel joy in my heart, it feels good it's been a long time. "You waited for me to get up?" I ask because no one ever does stuff like that for me. "Yeah, I always have a good day when I see something beautiful. So I think I'm going to have the best day ever." I smile holding my heart because it actually started hurting from how sweet that was. I look at him and say "we should figure out how to keep these flowers alive." I said that because I looked at his and it already started Browning on the petals even though mine looked perfectly fine. He looks at both of them and says "Well more mine than yours. But honestly I really don't care I'd rather just look at you all day." At this point I can't stop smiling. "Well if that's what you want to do then I'll do the same." That day we took a vow that we weren't going to do anything to the flowers and just sit there and talk. After a day of just talking to Matthew, I wake up again to the noise three times then stop. I walk to the door and before I see Matthew I see his flower it's dead. He tries to hid it by standing in front of it but he know I already seen it. He's going to get eliminated. I look at him with concern in my eyes "How does that work yours is dead and mine is perfectly fine and we both didn't touch it." "It's okay I'll be fine." He reassures me with acceptance of his pending elimination but what he didn't know that I did was elimination equaled death I couldn't bare it but also couldn't tell him it would really hurt him. So I kept it to myself as the day went on. In what I assumed was about afternoon time the beep of the p.a rang through the building and the woman who previously gave the speech for the start of every test began to speak. "Hello contestants, the test I'll be ending now. If your door opens you will be apart of the group, if your door remains shut you will be eliminated." The p.a turned off and we all waited in stun silence waiting to see whose door would open and whose wouldn't. After about five minutes we heard clacking at the doors like someone was unlocking a lock then the door opened mine actually opened. I jump with joy then notice Matthews didn't open I stopped jumping for joy and my smile was instantly turned to a frown. I walk out into the hall and walk to his door where he sat smiling and clapping for me. "I'm so sorry" I said with sympathy in my voice he looks at me and puts his finger over my mouth and shushes me "Don't feel bad be proud of yourself. I am happy for you, now go on beautiful and do the best you can just for me okay?" As he said that a single tear fell from my eye down my cheek and I repeated him "just for you." As I said that he stuck his hand out of one of the circles on the door and wiped the tear. I stand up and look around to see five more kids waiting outside their doors as well. There was two guys and three girls one of them was the girl I met in the second test what was her name... Victoria I thought to myself. Well it made me feel better that there was a familiar face. Captain grey walked down the opposite of the hall from the one I was on and he called to us and said "Come gather around!" Too happy as always. While walking down I looked at people through the doors terribly sad faces and mad faces watching me with every step giving me a look like they wanted to hurt me. Since I was the farthest away I got to see the rooms the other people who passed were in they were all lit different colors one was green, then purple, then orange, then yellow, then red. Once we reached Captain grey he counted us and said "ahh yes you six were chosen from close evaluation one each of your tests, six thats the number we were hoping for." Once he said that another door opened and we all looked. No one came out for a minute then a little girl like ten or twelve came out with blonde pigtales and overalls her room was lit with the color pink. When she walked out the kid that was in the orange room ran to her I'm guessing that's someone he's close with. While they were hugging Mr grey yelled out "Um no this is a mistake there is only supposed to be six, your door was not supposed to open." The little girl looked confused and said in a high pitched voice "what do you mean? I kept the flower alive I'm supposed to be out here." He looks at her then yells "security!" After that these men in whites suits just like every worker here come in and take the little girl away but she's strong and was putting up a fight "JACOB!" She yelled out holding out her hand before he can try to grab it Captain grey holds him back and doesn't let him. The guards finally got ahold of her and escorted her out of the hallway and out of the building. Jacob is let go by captain grey, after that he turns around and screams "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, THAT WAS MY BABY SISTER!" Mr grey looks at him and says in a calm voice "It's okay I'll have one of my guards look after her while you're here. She'll be safe. That seemed to calm Jacob down just a little bit but he was still pissed off about all the other reasons than just that. Captain grey looks at us and says "Okay then, why don't we get you out of those dirty clothes and show you your room." To me that sounded great a room with an actual bed heck an actual room I couldn't even dream of having a room. After that we started walking down the hallway the way captain grey came from and into an elevator. Gary pressed the number 15 for the floor and then the doors closed. All the way up the elevator was dead silent nobody spoke just some light humming from the jolly ol' captain. The elevator reached the floor it was going to and we got off into this very short hall way with a door at the end the hallway was just brown dimly lit brown hallway with a brown door at the end. Basic. We get to the door and Captain grey opens it. For the next few seconds all you could hear was gasps of the children. Behind the door was a giant circular room with beds in closed off sections color coded with an opening at the back of the room with the shape of the door we walk the the back and go through the opening and a giant half kitchen half living room is sitting there in front of our eyes. The kitchen was clean and pristine all white everything with fully stocked shelves with food galore. The living room was orange with accents of each color of the bed rooms. "This is where you will be staying from now on." Mr. Grey says with joy in his tone from seeing all the children flabbergasted at the sight. We walk back to the front room and Mr. Grey tells us that "the color of the lights in the room for the third test will be your color. There are clothes on your beds you can change into them, take a nap, eat whatever you want but I'll be back in a couple of hours to discuss everything. Also don't eat too much because I will be ordering pizza for the celebration." He walks out of the room and we all go to our assigned bed area. I had the color blue. I hurried up and got out of the dirty clothes I was wearing into the clothes they gave us which for me was black pants and a blue shirt. After I changed I yawned realizing I haven't slept in a day so I lay down on my bed it was like laying down on a cloud so soft so comfortable I was out like a light. After I fell asleep I was woken up by the sound of a door slamming it was captain grey coming in with five boxes of pizza just for us. He sat it down on the table in the middle of the round room and told us all to sit down so we did. "Now kids. This is a very important and courageous thing you are all doing for this city. Risking your lives just to save it. Now there are some nasty people who are trying to hurt this city but we are going to stop them. And I'm happy it's you six that are going to help us do that. Now training will start in the morning so be ready and get a good night sleep. But first get to know each other a little bit. These are your partners the people you will be seeing everyday and be spending a lot of time with so it would help to at least know their names. Okay I'll get out of your hair but enjoy the pizza" he says as he walk towards the door we all yell out "bye" in unison like robots or demented children. We sit there for a minute in silence eating the delightful pizza staring at each other waiting for someone to go first. "Hi I'm Jacob, or orange." Said the tall jocky type looking kid. "Hey I'm Trent, but you can call me red". Said the Asian kid in a cocky manner. "I'm Connor, or blue" I said normally. "I'm Autumn, also yellow." Mumbled the girl sitting in a ball like she's scared of us not eating the pizza. "I'm Isabella or green." Said the Mexican looking girl with dark hair. "And I'm Victoria as well as purple." Said the girl I sat next to during the second test. "Nice to meet you all" said Jacob. "Alright well it's getting late I'm gonna go to bed" I said and everyone agreed and left the table back into their color coded rooms. I laid down looking out the one window I've seen we were really high up but the view was beautiful over looking the lit up City at night it was astonishing to see. Then I closed my eyes and all I could see was matthew I shed a single tear and wiped it off and thought to myself "gotta stay strong. For him" as I said those words I drifted off into deep sleep wondering what the next day will bring.
