CHAPTER XXIV
“Announcement from the Student Council! Our Spring Fling inspired end-of-the-year dance shall be moved a week after your finals. Due to this, the council together with the PTA has decided to change our theme into a Winter’s Tale Masquerade Ball. Please be informed that all senior students shall attend and will be required to dress accordingly. For more information, do not hesitate to visit the Council office any day. Flyers will be distributed later at 3 pm. Thank you and have a nice day!”
“Ugh” I groaned. Great! I just remembered about the dance! And here I thought they would cancel it. I guess it’s a good thing they moved it for a few more weeks. But oh my gawd, what about the agreement I had with Evan? Maybe that one is not applicable anymore since Oriana is here. He is going to bring her, right? I mean they are back together, right? Of course they are! I see Oriana visiting him in school always. Gah! Whatever. I should stop caring anymore. It’s been a week since Evan stopped talking to me. He even sent me a message telling me he’ll finish our term paper on his own and that I should just worry with my other subjects. The jerk!
“Hoy babae! I didn’t know conscious ka pala sa mga girly stuff?” Derek teased. We were in the student center making a project together. There are so many assignments piling now that I always come home late. Good thing, Derek drives so I have an instant driver.
“Ano? Adik! Wala. Iba ang iniisip ko. Ang kulit mo ha. Magtrabaho ka na nga diyan!” I yelled at him.
“Siya na naman? Magmove on ka na nga. Sabi sayo kasi ako na lang eh. Ang hirap sa iyo, andito ako pero hindi mo naman ako pinapansin” he said, jokingly.
“Adik to. Namimiss ko lang kasi mga tao sa bahay. Parati tayong busy kaya wala na akong oras kina Lola” I explained.
He became silent for a minute and sighed. He started to put back his things on his back pack.
“Oh asan ka?”
“Tara, uwi tayo sa inyo. Dun na natin to tapusin”
“Ha? Sure ka?”
“Oo nga! Tara na kasi. Ambagal neto! Di ka pa rin nagbabago kahit kelan!” he complained.
“Ha? Ano?” I was confused for a moment.
“Tsk. Tara na. Bilis!”
We drove home. It was obvious Derek was nervous. I didn’t understand. There was something so familiar though. But he kept driving and I kept my mouth shut. We were just going to make a project at home. What’s wrong with him?
“Okay ka lang?” I finally asked him.
“Andito na tayo” he answered.
“Ha?” I asked.
“Sabi ko andito na tayo. Eh diba bahay nyo to? So andito na tayo” he explained.
“Ah, oo. Tara, pakilala kita kay Lola” I was about to go down when he stopped me from going down the car. His hand was on my hand, holding the car door. His face was just a few inches away from my face.
“Annie, promise me. Whatever happens, hindi ka magagalit” he said.
“Hindi kita magets” I said, clearly uncomfortable with the closeness of our bodies.
“Basta. Whatever happens, we are still friends” he insisted.
“Ha? Oo naman! Okay ka lang? Kinakabahan ako sa iyo eh!” I told him.
“Just. Be prepared. Friends, okay?” he asked.
“Okay. Fine” I said, wanting to be released.
He finally let me go and we both went out of the car. We went inside the house and Derek started looking around.
“Maliit lang bahay namin” I said.
“Maliit nga. Malaki kasi bahay namin eh. Alam mo na, mayaman kasi” he boasted.
“Tsk. Yabang”
He just smirked. I stopped. What is it with smirking boys? Why does it make them look cuter?
“LOLAAAAAAAAAAA! ANDITO NA HO AKOOOOOO!” I announced.
“Anita, ikaw ba yan?” Lola called from the kitchen. She’s probably cooking something. I heard footsteps.
“LOLA, MAY BISITA HO AKO!”
“Huwag ka na nga sumigaw! Andito na ako!” she said, annoyed at my yelling. She came out from the kitchen, putting her eyeglasses back on.
“Ay Lola, Si De-” I didn’t finish.
“Derek? Rik? RIK! Rik, ikaw na ba yan?! Rik! Jusko tong bata to kay gwapo na!”
“Lola Tessie, musta na po?”
